Introduction to space themed goals |
Following this surprise Monday release, I reckon the days of updates since we broke away from the old schedule has been Monday-Tuesday-Friday-Tuesday-Tuesday-Monday. See a pattern there? I don't! The only notable thing I can gather from that is that there's not been a single update in the traditional Wednesday slot, and for purely nostalgic reasons that brings a tear to my eye.
Before I properly well up, let's explore what's out there...
Tables:
- Star Table - 12,000 coins
- Spaceage Chair - 10,000 coins
- Astronaut Suit - 20,000 coins
- Space Console - 35,000 coins
- Infinity Dance Floor - locked by goal
- Galaxy Hologram - locked by goal
- Deep Space - 6,000 coins
- Spaceage Tile - 2,500 coins
- Starry Oven - locked by goal
- Star Counter - locked by goal
A space themed update is not a new phenomenon. We had such an update on New Year's Eve in 2014, with the infamously expensive Moon Landing hogging the headlines with its out of this world 80 gem asking price. This time the presence of a quest ensures that its coin content all the way, and with that existing stuff in the market there's scope for doing a fairly extensive space theme in your diner.
There are 10 additions, four of which can only be obtained by working through the goals. I'll investigate them in finer detail in a future goals content report, but for now we have six items which can be given the treatment. The first two I wish to look at are the Astronaut Suit and Space Console, which come with some familiarity. They are new to Restaurant Story, but are both already on the market in Bakery Story. You may recall in March's Suggestions Box that I recommended that the two games shared some decor if resources are stretched at Storm8, and perhaps this is the first sign of this in action.
They're both nice pieces, with the Space Console my preference - I can envisage a few characters who it would be quite interesting to place at the controls, including a few who really shouldn't be!
The Star Table brings with it the signature sparkles which seem to worm their way into every update, although on in this case they look right at home. The design here is really clever as it includes a starry section of space seen beneath the glass top, but it cannot be seen below the table surface on the outside. It's a virtual optical illusion which ordinarily would draw some disgruntlement from me, but on this occasion it feeds nicely into the mysteriousness of outer space.
And the Spaceage Chair is also a hit with me. The curvature of the chair is so satisfying, and the gamemakers have demonstrated their capacity to use different shades of colour to great effect. I'm always going on about how minimalistic decor can sometimes be the most effective decor, and this chair most certainly falls into that category. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that this is one of my favourite chairs in the game and that's saying something given the sheer number of them competing.
Next we have the Spaceage Tile which in contrast to the light airiness of the chair uses a combination of dull colours. In isolation this doesn't look like a particularly exciting floor tile, but I'm sure players will find that it comes in handy in certain scenarios.
We close out with the Deep Space, a blue-purple wallpaper with five-pointed stars stamped upon it. It doesn't fee like an original design, but having scrolled through the market I can't actually find anything similar. So it does fill a role, however is not the most elegant night sky design you could ever imagine. Something with more realistic stars would have pleased me more, but my criticism is limited.
Well, overall that's a pretty strong collection of additions thus far. Now we put our fate in the hands of the goals, with a short and snappy eight day quest. All the details can be found in my dedicated post here. Let's hope for some stellar recipes and cosmic floor decor out of the goals!
