Game update: 23/05/17

Be it a soppy romance or a goosebump worthy horror, we're headed for the movies this week with a new update which also includes a new set of goals.

Introduction to Theater goals

After no update at all last week we have a fairly bumper edition this week. This is now the third straight new content update we've had which has included a batch of goals, meaning that despite updates having grown more sporadic recently, we're still being well fed with stuff to do.

All in there are 14 additions this week which is pretty high. Here's the complete list:

Tables:
  • Theater Table - 14,000 coins
Chairs:
  • Theater Chair - 17,000 coins
Wall decorations:
  • Sci-Fi Poster - 21,000 coins
Floor decorations:
  • Velvet Rope - 24,000 coins
  • Theater Candy Display - 27,500 coins
  • Ticket Booth - 30,000 coins
  • Red Carpet Stars - 70,000 coins
  • Movie Screen - locked by goal
  • Open Air Theater - locked by goal
Wallpapers:
  • Theater Wall - 8,000 coins
Floor tiles:
  • Theater Carpet - 8,000 coins
Appliances:
  • Marquee Oven - locked by goal
  • Theater Oven - locked by goal
Counters:
  • Theater Counter - locked by goal

There's actually been a theater themed update before, with a small collection of stuff introduced in April 2013, including the four curtain wall decorations.

But the big talking point with this edition has to be the abundance of floor decor. As is the norm, there are two floor items which remain reserved, but on top that are four pieces all for coins which have me in a good mood.

The smallest and cheapest of the four is the Velvet Rope which, having appeared previously as the Red Rope Stanchion in the sister title, Bakery Story, is one of the decorations I most wanted to see given a go in Restaurant Story. I have my wish and look forward to integrating this more subtle of dividers in the future within all manner of settings.

The Theater Candy Display and Ticket Booth are both nice items too, with the display particularly pleasing given that it can be used effectively in multiple themes, with the retro diner one which immediately comes to mind. The booth comes with one notable drawback and that is the lack of detail in the facial expression of the bot at the booth. It's difficult to tell whether he's got a wide open mouth or a very rounded moustache!

Then there's the Red Carpet Stars which depicts a glamorous couple being snapped by the paparazzi from all angles. The red bottom is nice, but it is the fake advertising board behind the couple which is the truly great touch in this decoration. The couple look like proper celebrities posing for the cameras.

The two remaining floor items which are guarded by padlocks will be covered in the goals content report when I eventually finish the quest.

Beyond the floor decor, the Sci-Fi Poster is probably my pick of the additions. I'm not a follower of the Star Wars fandom, but I know people who are and this kind of thing will be right up their street. You've got the silhouettes of two heroes battling with lightsabers against a cosmic backdrop. If you're doing a theatre theme then this is definitely an item you need to be including.

In contrast to the excitement of the poster, the Theater Table and Theater Chair are much less exhilarating. The table is especially nondescript, with it's round wooden appearance not exactly inspiring thoughts of the cinema. The chair with its padded back is a little too luxurious for the movies, but at least we do have the Theater Seat from the aforementioned previous theater themed update.

The Theater Wall and Theater Carpet combine well, with both utilising curling flowery patterns. They're not the most understated of wallpapers and floor tiles, and yet I still think there's scope for them to be applied in lots of surroundings. There's a sophistication about them which appeals, and I suspect I may find a home for both of these at some point.

That covers everything that's readily available for purchase in this update. As I've already touched upon, a goals content report will round up everything else when the times comes - until then settle down, munch on some popcorn and enjoy the show!
