You may remember that last month I had very little to report thanks to a complete dearth of updates throughout March. Luckily things have picked up since then to some degree, with two cruise events sandwiching an Easter sale.
Let's start with the Wedding cruise event which broke new ground but not in a good way. A feeling of déjà vu would have been highly justified as this was the first case of a cruise being recycled for a second time. The wedding cruise first appeared in the game as one of the earliest cruise events back in July 2015, before returning in September 2016 for a second run.
At least the final prize was something new, with the Wedding Slice on the Jubilee Oven bringing the promise of gems.

Of course in reality this is just a recolouring of the Wedding Cake dish which was used as this cruise's final prize previously, but at least it is a different recipe. The required Bride's Bouquet is already delivered by Kate the Bride, but she now has competition as Breanna the Bride also brings us this special ingredient. If it had been the same bride getting married again then that would have been awkward!
Personally I had a hard time with this cruise, mostly because of my own inattentiveness. Of late I've been gathering momentum on the recipe mastery front, and was loath to drag myself away from the greater picture of earning those mastery stars. Once I did I was playing catch-up all the way, and eventually had to use 12 gems to finish day 9 before parting with 62 quick serves on day 10. It sounds like a real blow, but given the number of quick serves I've accumulated over the last couple of years it wasn't really that serious. Nevertheless I don't like parting with my premium currency!
While that cruise was ongoing we received an Easter sale. Sales have been close to non-existent in Restaurant Story 2 throughout its run, so this was a surprise to say the least. Fourteen items were included, with the majority of them being gem buys. Given how rare sales are in the game this really should have been a bigger thing than it ended up being. Excitement wasn't exactly at unprecedented levels, as evidenced by there not being a single response in the related thread on the Storm8 Forum.
Following the conclusion of the wedding cruise we headed straight into another which concludes this weekend. The Return to Vegas cruise event keeps with the theme of reused events, with this one first popping up just over a year ago. Even the gamemakers were happy to hold their hands up to this most pitiful of crimes, with the 'Return to Vegas' title a nod to their own laziness and lack of interest in their game.

The truth of it is that this cruise has jolted from one howler to another. Beyond it being another recycle job, we also had an auto start situation which I believe may be unprecedented. Usually we have a few days to start the 10 day event, thus allowing us to tailor the timing of the intensive challenge to fit our own lifestyles. Not this time though. The cruise kicked off on the Friday for everyone, which inevitably led to a heavy dose of criticism. Given that I tend to set them off on Fridays anyway in order to finish over a weekend it didn't make much difference to me, but I understand that not everyone is as lucky as me to be free on Saturdays and Sundays.
The next issue with the 'Return to Vegas' does affect me, and that is the lack of stamps as prizes. I alluded to my mastery mission earlier, and a significant obstacle in that is the stamp recipes. I've managed to obtain the three stars for all the silver and bronze stamp related dishes, but a number of the gold ones remain out of reach. What with the lack of any regular goals anymore and Lani's miserly gold drops, cruises were my main source of gold stamps. Now I don't even have that!
Just to polish it all off the final prize in this cruise is the Buffet Plate on the Jubilee Oven which has appeared in other guises in the past, and therefore is yet another piece of content which has been reused. The Casino Chips are the special ingredient as they were with the first Vegas cruise, although instead of Elvis stopping by with them it's Sally the Showgirl. Sorry Sally, but compared to Elvis even you are a letdown.

At the time of writing I am approaching the end of day 9 having been much more on the ball with this event. I'm on schedule and hope to finish the climactic day without any drama (or parting of quick serves). I just need to cross my fingers that no more Deep Fryer recipes crop up - I'm sick of having to refresh them!
Although I still haven't redecorated The Onion Bush (will it ever happen?!) I have had a busy couple of weeks on the upgrades front. I'd put off doing something with my horde of Hammers and Shovels for some time, and thus have been able to execute three expansions in the past fortnight, with the next being expansion 23. I believe that is the penultimate expansion so I'll be maxed out before long!
I've also upgraded by Seafood Shop's restock to level 5, which edges me closer to being full upgraded across all of the ingredient stores. All that remains is the upgrade to level 6 for the Seafood Shop and the Fruit Market.
It's strange that despite the absence of innovation in the events over the past few months I'm still chipping away with gusto with my own personal goal of mastering every recipe. The 1,600 gem purchase of the Festival Stove was a signal of my intent, and having committed to that I'm now driving towards my target. It will still be a long time before I get there, but at least it gives me reason to keep visiting my diner. Can't promise I'll redecorate though without some new stuff to choose from, so come on Storm8! Show some love to the sequel title!
