Introduction to sunset themed goals |
It is only the third time since we moved to irregular updates that one has dropped on the last working day of the week, and the first time since the start of May.
The theme is a little unclear. There's clearly a summery sense, but it's difficult to pinpoint a 'subtheme' of any sort such as pirates or water parks. I'm going to go with sunsets, just because a few of the new decorations have this in their name and it reflects the fact that we are at the end of the summer.
So what of those new decorations? Here's the complete list...
Tables:
- Plastic Table - 20,000 coins
- Plastic Chair - 16,000 coins
- Sunset Panorama - 18,000 coins
- Beach Feast Table - locked by goal
- Beachy Hut - locked by goal
- Sandcastle - locked by goal
- Summer Sunset - 9,000 coins
- Summer Hut Tile - 9,000 coins
- Sunset Oven - locked by goal
- Sunset Grill - locked by goal
- Plastic Counter - 22,000 coins
As always a number of these additions are hidden behind a padlock and can only be accessed by working your way through a goal set. You can get all the details on that in my separate post here.
Personally I'm over summer at this point. The dreary weather in my corner of the world may be contributing to that grumpy point of view, but we've been getting updates loosely based on summer for at least a couple of months now, so it seems appropriate that in mid-September we move on.
Autumn has been delivered in style in Restaurant Story over the years, with some of the finest content ever to grace the game being associated with the season of change. This is what we should be focused on now rather than the last dregs of summer. Given the timeframe it is possible we may now not get an autumn themed update - October tends to mean Halloween, although I would not be at all surprised to see autumn stuff released (and to general discontent from the players) at the beginning of October, with Halloween held back until much closer to the date.
Anyway, let's focus upon this update and in particular the truly awful Plastic Table, Plastic Chair and Plastic Counter. They look awful, they sound awful, and they their pricing is awful. It's the triple play of horror and gets us off to a dreadful start. I guess you could say that their blandness makes them flexible and potentially fitting for scores of surroundings, but for me they are as dull as dishwater.
The eagle-eyed among you may spot this trio from Bakery Story where they are the Picnic Table, Picnic Chair and Picnic Counter in a more distinct shade of green. And comparisons with the sister game are sadly plentiful with this update. In fact, almost every item has been transferred over from Bakery Story.
The two appliances are among the exceptions although their core shapes are fairly standard so I wouldn't be surprised if they have been recycled and just given a fresh lick of paint, much like the table, chair and counter. The Sandcastle goal prize may also be completely new - there is a Sandcastle in the Summer Beach Box in Bakery Story, but it is clearly distinct from the one awaiting discovery in Restaurant Story.
Of the remaining new additions which can be bought straight away in the market, it's the Summer Sunset that pulls me in most. It has silhouettes of palm trees in its lower third, but by positioning them so far down, it places the focus on the slowly changing horizontal strips of colour representing the sunset. What I love here is the absence of the sun itself - put it in and you have difficulty placing multiples of this wallpaper side-by-side. Instead you can really enhance an early evening scene with some cracking colours.
The Sunset Panorama goes for a different tone for the sky at dusk, with purples and pinks used on the canvas. This is what I'd describe as a classic item in Bakery Story, and I suspect I'll have some real fun forcing characters within my diner to interact with this piece in the long run. It has got high interactivity value for sure.
The last introduced item you can buy from the off is the Summer Hut Tile. Featuring two shades of brown interweaved, there's a hint of blandness about this flooring. It's not anywhere near the scale of the plastic furniture though, and there are likely to be some good uses for this one along the line. However charging 9,000 coins for each purchase will keep plenty of players away, probably myself included. You can rack up a sizeable bill quickly buying floor tiles in bulk, and for this price I'm not sure it's worth it.
As well as all that regular new content, there is also a small sale appeared yesterday.
Notification for end of summer sale |
And when I say small I mean it, both in terms of the volume of stuff marked down and the duration of the deals. Just four crates have received orange frames - the Beach Resort Box, Autumn Gift Box, Fall Harvest and Bonfire Crate - and they are only on sale until 18th September. That's Monday!
So be quick if you are intending to dip in. I've opened three of these in the past so have no intention of parting with any gems on this occasion. In fact I've barely spent any gems in recent months which means that I am looking in good shape for the seasonal period, which of course should include a bonanza of deals on Black Friday.
This is the second update in a row which has included some form of sale, and it leaves me pondering why the gamemakers don't hold back and release them during one of the blank weeks instead. This would certainly make updates feel more regular and would help ensure that the sales don't get overshadowed by the quest in motion simultaneously. Me thinks this requires a Suggestions Box entry!
That does it for now - I will eventually release a goals content report with analysis of the unlocked prizes and recipes, although on this occasion there could be a sizeable delay. I'm off on holiday for two weeks next weekend so face a race against time to get the quest done before I head off! Fortunately a goals content report for the animal water park goals is in the works (I originally planned to publish it today!) and should be with you on Monday so stay tuned for that!
