Introduction to spring 2018 goals |
After a long, dark and frankly miserable winter it's nice to be able to look forward to finer weather and hopefully some cheery goal sets. And it starts now with a spring themed edition. As usual there's plenty of new content to be had so here is that usual list:
Tables:
- Gingham Table - 17,800 coins
- Picnic Chair - 16,700 coins
- Spring Garland - 18,200 coins
- Picnic Spread - locked by goal
- Flower Pond - locked by goal
- Sunset Garden Party - locked by goal
- Tulip Meadow - 6,600 coins
- Spring Grass - 5,500 coins
- Sandwich Station - locked by goal
- Drink Station - locked by goal
- Picnic Basket Counter - 19,000 coins
A good spread of stuff there and some really promising items among them! I have to start with the Gingham Table which is one of the cutest tables I've seen to date. I do love a gingham pattern and the red and white checks is just a classic picnic style. At 17,800 coins it's not a cheap buy but it's certainly one I'll be making use of throughout the warmer months in my place.
The Picnic Chair is sadly less exciting. The proportions seem to be all over the shop, with the legs too high and the back too short. I guess you could argue that an uncomfortable seat is all part of the picnic experience but from a Restaurant Story aesthetics point of view it's difficult to do anything other than give this piece the thumbs down.
Meanwhile your first goal purchases are the Tulip Meadow wallpaper and Spring Grass floor tile. The wallpaper is not unlike some existing designs with its flowery foreground. I'd say the tulips are oversized and the background could do with a dash more colour to increase the vibrancy, but it could still be a handy wallpaper to use at some point.
The flooring on the other hand is a beauty. I remember the bad old days when it was Astro Turf or bust as far as grassy areas were concerned, and now we have so many more choices which are far less expensive. This particular entry offers some daisies on a well cropped lawn - I'd probably say that given its more realistic appearance it trumps the likes of the Spring Meadow and Dandelion Field tiles that we already have on the market.
Elsewhere the Spring Garland provides an indication that wall decorations are well and truly back on the menu. The chain of flowers is pretty and could be very effective when placed in a line. We've had a good few garland type decorations in the past but they often seem to be themed around less cheery events such as Halloween so this is certainly a welcome addition.
Lastly for now there's the Picnic Basket Counter. This is one of those counters where I wish it could be a floor decoration - it has been beautifully crafted from top to bottom with no corners cut when it comes to the woven patterns. The use of red alongside the woody brown works a treat and it's a rare case where placing a dish on top won't actually spoil the appearance since we automatically associate picnic baskets with food!
You can probably tell from my tone that I'm pretty excited by this update. Life has been very busy in recent weeks and in truth I hadn't even had a proper look at the new stuff until I came to write this post. Fair to say I've been very impressed! Hopefully I'll have more success getting to the end than the last couple of quests...
Now before I sign off we have a sale to discuss:
Notification for Easter 2018 sale |
Released a day before this update, this is a small Easter themed sale. The Egg Table, Egg chair and Bunny Clock are all back for five days, as are two crates - the Spring Basket and Easter Chest. You can get some details on those two boxes over on my Crate Catalogue.
I can't put it any other way - this sale is underwhelming. We've had some heavyweight deals in recent weeks and months with a lot of content included so it goes without saying that this is something of a letdown. It probably stems from the fact that we've never had an abundance of Easter updates and items down the years and that shows up in all its glory here.
Nevertheless a sale is a sale, and the two boxes are 50% off so are certainly worth considering at this moment in time. With that five day timer you can expect the orange frames to vanish on Monday.
Well that does it for now. I realise I haven't done a goals content report for the Easter goals yet. It's hard to find the time at the moment so I may start doing a full goals round-up every so often rather than a separate one for each goal set. Just an idea just now - we'll see how things pan out!
