Countdown to content removal (boxes)

A removal of 'Winter holiday content' took place on Tuesday 7th January 2014. Only Christmas content was removed. More information can be found here.

Let me take you back to 3rd January 2013...

A pop-up appears to every player on every TeamLava game, and it informs that all holiday content from 2012 will be removed on the 7th. Chaos ensues as players frantically try to decide what is and what isn't 'holiday content', before invading Design mode to buy up items expected to go and desperately trying to master seasonal recipes.

It was a bit of a shambles in all honesty. Only four days notice of a whole raft of unnamed items and dishes being removed with no promise of any returning at any time in the future. So as that time approaches again, here's a guide as to what you should do.

The definition of 'holiday content' is a dodgy one - Valentine's Day, Halloween and Christmas clearly all fall into this bracket, but what about Summer, Autumn, Carnival and Cruise themed items? So for the sake of taking no chances I'm going to class anything added this year as at risk.

Every week I'm posting a list of items released in 2013 for a certain category, comprising of the nine tabs of Design mode and the recipes. The boxes are the final category...

Box Date added Theme
Crystal Gift Box 16th Jan Winter
Valentine Chest* 12th Feb Valentine's Day
Swedish Gift 20th Feb Swedish
Action Chef Box 20th Mar Asian
Picnic Surprise 10th Apr Spring
May Basket 22nd May Spring
Cruise Box 19th Jun Cruise
Carnival Box 10th Jun Carnival
Pirate Chest 14th Aug Under the sea
Melody Box 11th Sep Musical
Horn of Plenty** 13th Nov Thanksgiving
Sleigh Crate 11th Dec Christmas

Last updated Thursday 2nd January 2014.

(*) This box was a 2011 or 2012 removal, but has been re-added in 2013. It is expected to be removed again this year.

(**) This box is 'in season' so may be removed in the near future in a removal of the same format as the Halloween content removal.

Note that all of the boxes cost 24 gems to purchase.

So we've had 12 boxes added to the game in 2013, with a further two Halloween themed boxes (Mystery Mummy Chest and Spooky Chest) already removed courtesy of the Halloween content removal.

Any of these boxes could be taken out, so time is of the essence if you want to spend some gems on these. The fact that the first and second prizes already have an exclusive element to them may make a gamble on a box even more tempting in the coming days as such items will be even more coveted after access to them is removed altogether.
