First on the agenda is Lani's 14th set of goals.
Three silver stamp goal from Lani's 14th set of goals |
The long run without Lani making an appearance is undoubtedly behind us now. After returning from a three month absence in late May we only had to wait a fortnight for another trio of goals. That last batch took a while for me to get used to having present, and consequently I didn't complete them within the time limit. No such carelessness this time. Progress was swift, with one gold and five silver stamps eventually headed my way.
Later the same week another cruise landed. The Fathoms Below cruise event was the latest in a long line of re-releases, with this one first appearing in July 2016.

The big story with this event was a change to the order refresh time. Since the dawn of cruises there has been a 30 minute wait for a new recipe to pop up upon refreshing an order, but from this cruise it has increased to 35 minutes. In addition the gem cost to skip the waiting time has been upped from two gems to three. It's a cheeky little move and one which players could quite easily overlook. I don't tend to ever speed up refreshes so this doesn't effect my gameplay significantly, but presumably some players will be left frustrated by this alteration.
Another change was with the second gold stamp prize. It was good to see the stamps returning as prizes in the previous African Safari cruise event, but this was taken further still on this occasion, with three gold stamps awarded on day eight instead of two. A nice gesture from Storm8 which certainly makes up for the order refresh increase. I'm pleased to report that I am now building up a decent stash of European Butter again.
Upon completion of the cruise the visits of Captian Ziswho were unlocked. He brought with him Scallops which are used to prepare Coquilles St. Jacques on the Jubilee Oven. This is another case of a reused special ingredient, and although Cream is among the other ingredients called for it is a relief to find that Sugar and Flour are absent.
From one cruise we went straight into another, this one being an Independence Day cruise event.

This is an unusual case of a cruise which has not appeared previously. However there's no need to get too excited - the unlockable content is not new but rather plagiarised from a BBQ themed goal set in 2015. This includes the special guest up for grabs - Uncle Sam delivered Mustard for the quest back then and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was the very same ingredient that he dropped on a permanent basis following this cruise.
The event is still in progress, with an automatic start last Friday meaning that everyone will be finishing up tomorrow (Sunday). Allowing players to choose their own starting day is much preferable, so why Storm8 have opted on a number of occasions recently to commence proceedings straight away is a mystery. Anyway, I've been bobbing along nicely with this one, but have fallen a little behind over the past 48 hours. Some quick serves may need to be parted with come tomorrow night, but I'm still feeling fairly confident.
We close out as we started, with Lani.
Gold stamp goal from Lani's 15th set of goals |
Her 15th set of goals arrived on the same day as the Independence Day cruise and followed the exact same format once again. I made sure to get all three tasks done reasonably briskly in order to avoid valuable resources being stretched across both events as the cruise neared its climax, and have certainly benefited from having an abundance of Turbinado Sugar and European Butter at hand.
However Lani and her goals could really do with some work. Theming each set around some specific subject would make them feel more unique and less repetitive. In this case something July the Fourth related would have tied in snugly to the cruise theme, but instead it's just the generic steps that we've come to expect.
RS2 News
At the end of all this the main conclusion is that it has been a bog standard month to all intents and purposes. Restaurant Story 2 really is a monotonous game these days with very little in the way of variation to keep things interesting. And yet I am somehow still churning out dish after dish!
