Game update: 23/11/17

What a busy couple of days we've had! My dissection of Black Friday (so far!) will be with you a little later - for now the focus is on a flash goal set which was released late on Thursday.

Notification for Turkey Cooker goals

This is a five day quest much like the popcorn themed one which was released in October. That means that an old appliance is at the hub of things, and in this case the machine in question is the Turkey Cooker. Originally introduced as a goal prize three years ago, now everyone has another opportunity to utilise it. But even if you already have it there's something to play for, since there are three new recipes have been added to it and a large floor a decoration is also up for grabs.

The main talking point surrounding this quick quest seems to have been its timing. Releasing flash goals on Thanksgiving Day has not gone down very well, and you can understand why. Being from the UK I'm not all that clued up on Thanksgiving, but it seems to be much like Christmas - a time for families to come together and enjoy each other's company. It's a peaceful time. Not a time for frantically rotating your appliances.

Of course the goals are not compulsory. In theory there's nothing stopping you from just politely ignoring them and carrying on with your life. I did exactly that with the bonus chain in the main Thanksgiving goals this month. But if you have any aspirations of mastering every recipe in the game then turning your back isn't an option.

So what exactly are we fighting for here? Well, first of all you're going to need to put together some Turkey Cookers, which means parting with 6 Black Kettles, 6 Purple Knobs, 4 Metal Sheets and 4 Paint. Once you've done that there are six recipes lie in waiting:

The Turkey Meatloaf, Turkey Casserole and Rosemary Turkey are the original trio on this appliance, with the Turkey Leftovers, Cold Turkey and Turkey Au Gratin added with this update. Consequently the latter three start out locked.

Not much fun stuff to discuss here. As with the popcorn themed goals, the three new entries have identical statistics to the three existing recipes. That means that the Turkey Leftovers have a decent XP in the context of the 3 hour duration, but otherwise there's little to sing and dance about.

So let's move on to the final prize gained upon completion of this quest. It's the Thanksgiving Feast which is actually in my restaurant at this very moment:

As with the Turkey Cooker, this was a product of the 2014 goals, and is 4x4 in size. It's a belter of a prize in my opinion, with a range of tasty dishes being sampled by a family of revellers. The wreaths on the backs of the chairs go nicely with the bouquet of autumn toned flowers on the table, making this a well rounded piece.

It's certainly a quality Thanksgiving decoration, but that leads us on to another issue with this entire goal set. Because as well as interrupting a big occasion for many players, it becomes out-of-date immediately. Thanksgiving is now officially past, and by the time most get hold of the final prize all of Thanksgiving weekend will have ticked away. These goals should really have been released sooner, but still not overlapping with the main quest. Better scheduling was certainly needed.

And so that does it - the second set of flash goals, which have not gone down well given the timing. But since Black Friday is getting more interesting with every passing minute I think we should move on...
