Another parts lowdown

Constructible parts are an important aspect of Restaurant Story. Without them you cannot build any of the appliances included in the goal updates, and thus cannot complete the goals to unlock some exclusive decorations.

As a result a lot of players ('parts players' if you will) like to accumulate a stock of parts via gifting for when the goals roll around so that they are in the best position possible to get the goals done in a reasonable amount of time.

But with 48 parts currently available to gift, which ones are the best bets? I've answered this question twice before, but that's the magic of the game - things are always evolving and changing - so there's no guarantee that conclusions drawn many months ago are still accurate.

So now we shall delve into the archives and observe any changes to the general trend of parts required for constructing new appliances. Since the last such analysis took into account appliances added between October 2013 and April 2014, it makes sense for me to count all the cookers introduced in the time since.

In all there are 24 parts have been utilised since my last update. Here are the 10 most frequently used, listed in order of the total number of the part required:

Part Number of
appliances
Number
required
Metal Sheet 5 27
Screw 5 21
Paint 4 19
Sturdy Wood 3 17
Knob 3 14
Purple Knob 2 14
Black Kettle 2 14
Spring 3 13
White Spring 2 12
Red Knob 2 11
Red Gear 2 11

Perhaps surprisingly it is the Metal Sheet which tops the charts! Only the Screw has featured on as many appliances, but not with as great quantities required.

Most frequently used parts since May 2014

You'd expect the Screw to feature high in the table considering it has always been a regular craving for new ovens, but the same can't really be said of the Metal Sheet. Indeed the Metal Sheet only appeared on one appliance in the last count, while the Screw was inevitably high in the table.

Like the Screw, the Paint is predictably well used, but the fourth placed part is a real revelation. Unlike those above it in the list, the Sturdy Wood is not one of the original 'basic' parts having been added in August 2012 for the Fire Pit Grill. It then went unused for more than 18 months at which point the Lace Oven came along. Since then the Sturdy Wood has appeared twice more, making it a much more prominent part.

Once again comparing to the last round of analysis, the Red Gear has fallen big time. There was a period when it was involved in just about every set of goals, but it now hasn't been utilised since the Riverboat Oven was added in July. Whatever happened to this popular part? It is now much less valuable than it was last Summer.

One final note is with regards to the Motor. It's not been used during the period in question at all! The Motor may be a 'basic' part, but you have to go back to the Ruby Red Oven last Valentine's Day for the last time it was called upon. Maybe it will be implemented for Valentine's next month?!

So there we have it. If you've not been given any instructions on what to send your neighbours and fancy delivering a part, then the Metal Sheet is the most likely to come in handy when the next pair of goal appliances hit the market. But that is nothing more than a recommendation based on the pattern of parts over the last while. We've seen the part tectonics shifting regularly and no doubt they'll do so again.

Just look at the last couple of goal sets - each has included two new parts which have been instrumental in appliance construction, which just goes to show that there's only so much you can do to ready yourself. But that's okay because the uncertainty and air of mystery is a major part (pun absolutely intended!) of what makes the game so enticing, isn't it?!

  2. (Sorry, adjusting to a different keyboard >_<)

Have to agree with your last point, but with the recent introduction of new parts (Frozen Fuses and Ice for January, and Snowflake and Holly Screwdriver for December), and with the new appliances respective to each month requiring those new parts, it's slowly seeming unnecessary to hoard up so many basic parts. And as much as I like new parts, I get so many of them that by the time I'm finished with the goals, I have leftovers! I hope the addition of new parts doesn't become a trend; I've got plenty in storage I'd like to use up! :)

Alternatively, I wish we could sell them for coins or use them elsewhere, like on constructible decorations (haven't seen one of those in a while). They cost gems if one doesn't have enough for an appliance, so they must be worth something, right? :) I also hope the new ones come into use later so they're not a one-time-part. The Ice, for example, I could see in the summer time, used to make some nice refreshing chilled drinks or shakes :D

    1. It would be a real shame if we get new parts for every new appliance with the existing parts becoming obsolete. However new parts are still welcomed by me as they do add to the challenge and keep things interested.

They need to strike a balance. Existing parts should be required in the construction of every new appliance, with a new part introduced as part of the requirements every, say, two goal sets. :)
