The changing parts landscape

Back in September last year, I provided some gifting advice on the basic parts. But since then, the parts landscape has been changing, so now is as good a time as any to investigate exactly how...

Parts are of course necessary to build the constructible appliances, and by sending and receiving gifts of them to and from neighbours, you can stock up in anticipation of the next set of goals.

In that previous study, I restricted my analysis to the traditional basic parts (the first 10 in the gift list after the food), but you'll have probably have noticed that of late some other parts have been becoming more common in being requirements for appliance building.

So now let's take into account the other components too. I'm still going to exclude those parts which are clearly seasonal such as Santa Hats and Romance Ribbons, but any parts which are 'generic' are included. Here's the result when we count from the Halloween appliances onward:

Part Number of
appliances
Number
required*
Red Gear 5 27
Paint Brush 5 25
Motor 3 17
Screw 3 15
Spring 3 15
Gear 2 10
Fuse 1 5
Green Nozzle 1 5
Metal Sheet 1 5
Nozzle 1 5
Paint 1 5
Red Knob 1 5
White Spring 1 5
Yellow Steel 1 5

(*) Count includes appliances released since October 2013.

Surprising results eh! Not being situated near the front of the gift list, you may not expect the Red Gear and Paint Brush to be the most utilised parts, but there you have it.

The most frequently used parts in the last six months

Indeed, one or the other features in 10 of the 14 appliances in this survey. At the other end of the scale, several of the seemingly basic parts have only featured once in the last six months, with the Knob not used at all!

Of course the non-goal appliances which are active in the market (such as the Drink Machine and Sushi Bar) are all older, so tend to utilise the original basic parts the most, so I still recommend the previous gifting advice for those. But otherwise it looks like the Red Gear and Paint Brush are the new parts to mass gift if you're in doubt!

However be warned - there is no guarantee that the landscape won't change again. After all, only last month we received an appliance requiring a totally new part which couldn't even be gifted! You can't forecast what's coming, but you can always try and be prepared!

    1. I'm sure the Sturdy Wood has caught out plenty of players! Just goes to show that any parts could be re-used eventually! :)

  2. So, was going through your old posts as I'm looking for the update pattern. ie. Goal week followed by a few item updates, followed by a Box update etc.. Found this handy post on parts gifting... Love that table you created above! I'm in the mode now of trying to stockpile parts, including things that will likely be used soon, such as Green Nozzle (Haloween goals perhaps?..)

    1. I tend to associate the Green Nozzle with outdoor themes, so it might be more likely for possible Autumn goals.

I recall some of the seasonal goals in the last 12 months have actually reused parts from the previous year's event. So the likes of the Magical Wood, Magical Brick, Magical Snowball, Santa Hat and Holly may well come in useful - I doubt you've got many of them stored up! :)
