There are two main categories of gift items - food and parts. I covered food gifts in part 1. Here I concentrate on part gifts.
The ten main parts in Restaurant Story |
The ten main parts pictured above are the ones most commonly required for appliance construction. Most of the other parts are only useful for building one special appliance.
Gifting advice
30/08/13 Food gifts
Personally, I prefer to receive part gifts. The main reason for this is that I have no real use for food gifts (as covered in part 1). But I do also prefer to collect parts as they can be stored up and utilised when necessary for new appliances.
This is particularly relevant at the moment because of TeamLava's recent policy on new appliances. Since the start of the summer, the game's developers have been pleasing players by releasing new appliances which require existing parts to build. This makes it much easier to construct lots of the new machines quickly.
For example the Cruise Ship Stove (which was unlocked in the Cruise goals) requires 10 Metal Sheets and 10 Screws to build. Now starting from nothing you would have to wait a while to build up an army of this appliance to help get the goals done. This is because you can only accept 20 gifts a day in addition to having 20 part requests accepted. But with lots of Metal Sheets and Screws saved up over time, I was able to build four or five of these beauties immediately.
So which of the parts is the best to gift? Well, as I've already said, the ten main parts in the image above are the most common requirements for constructible appliances.
But getting into more detail, here's a table showing how many of each of these main parts are required across all of the current active appliances (including those unlocked through goals):
Part | Number of occurences* |
---|---|
Screw | 133 |
Paint | 65 |
Knob | 52 |
Gear | 51 |
Metal Sheet | 46 |
Nozzle | 45 |
Motor | 34 |
Fuse | 20 |
Spring | 16 |
Wiring | 15 |
(*) This count includes appliances available this year (whether by default or by goals) up to and including the Old West update this week, and does not include any appliances costing gems such as Forever and Sonic appliances.
So the Screw is quite clearly the most commonly required part with Paint a strong second followed by Knobs and Gears. I was actually quite surprised that Springs and Wiring are so underused. But remember that this could change when new appliances are released in the future, as was the case with the addition of the Saloon Stove this week - Wiring is a component for it.
So if you want to give your neighbours a headstart when they come to build appliances, then Screws are the way to go!
The issue I face with gifting the same item as requested is that the process is slightly cumbersome. The process not only requires multiple touches but also takes time for the server end to open up the player's profile and the dialogue boxes.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. It's a bit drawn out and it's easy to forget the neighbour your sending the additional item to if you are distracted by something else while the server loads the page. This might be partly why many players don't do it.
DeleteI'm a couple months late to this conversation, but I was reading your archives while half-watching football and I actually think making this easier might be a great point for your monthly suggestion box. This is clearly "best" neighbor behavior, so it would be nice for TL to encourage it.
DeletePoint noted. It's joining the Suggestion Box queue! :)
