Old West recipe analysis

Via the Old West goals, there are two new appliances unlockable, and each contains three fresh dishes.

Let's start analysing them with the Old West Oven's recipes:

Firstly I have to say that I don't fancy ordering any of these. The Thick Cut Bacon would no doubt be smothered with fat, while I cannot fathom why anyone would want a sourdough. I could probably stomach the Fried Chicken, but there are other ways I prefer my meat cooked.

But to get serious, the stats on these dishes won't get you ordering them either. You may spot that all three have 61 XP attached. This is a new move by TeamLava and one which has mixed consequences.

It means that the bacon has an outstanding XP return - the best 1 hour recipe for XP after this is the Gourmet Hot Dog (Basic Grill) which is way back at 35 XP. However the profit and portions for the bacon are rather ordinary.

Next up is the Sourdough Biscuits. This is where we start to see the downside of giving all the recipes 61 XP. This gain is below average. The portion size is well below average. Other than to complete the goals and master it for the gems, I say keep clear of this one.

The last recipe aboard the Old West Oven is the Fried Chicken. Now the identical XP gain becomes highly detrimental. For 8 hours of cooking, 61 XP is a dreadful return - the top 8 hour dish in this department, Escargot with Lamb (Basicd Grill), offers 137 XP. It's profit of 2,050 coins is mediocre while the 700 portions won't keep your counters covered anywhere near as long as a recipe of this duration should.

So other than the glorious XP for the bacon, the Old West Oven doesn't offer much long-term. But what about the Saloon Stove?

Well the XP situation is the same for these three recipes as for those on the Old West Oven. So for the Cowboy Beans this isn't too bad at all. In fact, 61 XP for a 3 hour dish is pretty good. Fruit Kebabs (Vegan Stove) is the only recipe of the same duration which can trump it. Unfortunately the portion size lets this one down - the Fruit Kebabs I mentioned offer 750 servings which is well over double the number you get with the beans.

Moving on to the Rascal Stew, and like the Sourdough Biscuits, the XP gain becomes poorer. And unfortunately the other stats for this stew are unappealing too. If you want to cook a 6 hour recipe I'd recommend the Kiwi & Cake (Basic Oven) if you're not interested in high XP or Escargot (Basic Stove) if you are.

Finally, we have the Molasses Pudding to wash down the beans and stew. But I'll be passing on dessert. That's because there is no 12 hour dish currently available in the game which yields less XP, plus the XP per hour is the fourth lowest of all active recipes. To add insult to injury, the portion size of 925 is the second lowest for this time bracket (after Macaroni & Cheese with 900). The profit margin is decent enough, but is negated completely by the horrendous XP and profit numbers.

Note that to unlock the Molasses Pudding you need to complete the goal involving the requesting of poker cards from neighbours.

So six new recipes with poor statistics overall other than the 61 XP being good for the 1 and 3 hour dishes. Otherwise steer clear once you've cooked them for the goals and the mastery gems.
