Reduced service at The Garlic Tree

Tomorrow Action Chef Lee and myself are heading to sunnier climbs for a couple of weeks, and the Swedes are being left in charge. They work hard in the Kitchen, but they're not known for interacting with the neighbours and leaving tips. However they have promised to try and send gifts.

In all seriousness, I'm going away on holiday tomorrow for a fortnight, and as a result there won't be any blog posts for a couple of weeks.

I'll still be playing Restaurant Story while away (it's an addiction!) but won't be visiting my neighbours to leave tips. Instead I'll be shoving some 2 day dishes in the oven and relying on food gifts to keep the customers from leaving in a huff.

Recipe ratings (5 hours)

Information in this post is correct as of Saturday 21st June 2014.

The assessment of the recipe ratings continue with the 5 hour dishes this week.

The 5 hour recipes form the smallest pool of contenders we've analysed so far, with 21 dishes up for evaluation. Three of these have been completely removed with another on an appliance no longer purchasable. There are also three 5 hour efforts on goal appliances.

This time I'm starting with the XP gain factor. There's a clear leader in this market, with the Chicken Parm Pie (Basic Oven) giving 111 XP for each batch.

Game update: 18/06/14

The World Cup is in full flow, and unsurprisingly Restaurant Story is getting involved with a football (ahem, not soccer!) themed update.

Here's a look at how the new items line up:

Suggestions Box (Jun 2014)

Every month I list five things I'd like to see added, altered or abolished from the game. Because even though my long time of playing Restaurant Story clearly shows I love it, that doesn't mean it's perfect. Some of the ideas I'll air will be significant game changers while others will be low-key and irrelevant in the eyes of many of you readers.

In no particular order, here are this month's entries...

Game update: 11/06/14

I thought we'd seen the last of it, but no! The Western theme just can't stay away and is back again!

Notification for latest Western update

We had Western themes three times in 2013: the first was in February and included the Cowboy Stove, the second was a goals week in September, and the third was just a couple of days before Black Friday. It seems that TeamLava originally planned a lengthy period of Old West updates but then changed their mind for whatever reason. As a result, the already rendered content has been released in dribs and drabs.

This conjecture is strengthened by the fact that there's not been a box in any of the previous Western updates. So this is the missing piece! The Cowboy Crate is a lucky dip with nine floor decorations up for grabs, exclusively available via the box. Here's a distribution list for the prizes:

Beach goals content report

Last Wednesday's update included a new set of goals, with five of the new items available only by working through the quest. So what sort of things can we unlock?

The Coral Counter is the first decoration unlocked in the goals. It's a return to my dislike of counters with a 'filling' rather than just being a block with a fancy design. But I actually quite like this one. The glass casing resembles a fish tank, although I don't think there are any fish inside. The simple charcoal base gives for a sleek item which merits its standing as a goal prize.

Next to be unlocked is the Shore Table. I think this table looks brilliant. Similarly to the Weathered Wood wallpaper, there's a dustiness to the table which gives it a hardened appearance you'd associate with a battering from the sea. However the crab lurking under the table would put me off from taking a seat here!

Now for the Beach Bonfire. Considering the scale of this 1x1 piece, I'm not sure I'd describe it as a bonfire but there you go. It's a bit of a random choice by TeamLava, and the sand included prevents you from effectively incorporating the bonfire in a different theme. Plus the shells scattered on the Sandy Shore flooring means that you can't make a clean job of placing the bonfire on the beach either!

Recipe ratings (4 hours)

Information in this post is correct as of Saturday 7th June 2014.

In the latest recipe ratings instalment, we take a look at the 4 hour recipes.

Following the addition of the Crab Cakes this week, there are a total of 53 dishes in the game of 4 hour duration. It is the most common recipe length of all, with 49 of said dishes still available. However there are 22 of the 4 hour recipes which are only accessible if you've completed goals or purchased seasonal appliances which are no longer around.

It's Summertime folks, so let's head to the beach! With the latest update comes a new batch of goals for your enjoyment.

As ever there are 34 days on the clock so expect the goals to disappear forever on Monday 7th July. So without any further ado, let's get ourselves down to the sea!

Here's a list of the goal steps:
