A parts probe

I'm embarrassed to say that it has now been 10 months since I last gave an overview of the most regularly utilised parts for building appliances. But that means there's lots of data to play with, so let's get straight into it!

Since that previous update there are 33 new appliances have been introduced to the game, with each and every one launched as part of a goal set. All but two of these cookers have called for a part not seen previously, with the exceptions being the Marquee Oven and La Mar Oven which needed only existing parts.

So that means a heck of a lot of information to piece together. To make things easier, I'm going to cast aside any part which has not been needed more than once in the past 10 months. Doing so leaves us with 13 parts to consider. That's still a fair few, but here's a neat table which hopefully gives us a feel for the parts landscape:

Part Number of
appliances
Number
required
Fuse 5 41
Wiring 5 30
Star Knob 3 24
Metal Sheet 3 23
Motor 3 23
Gear 3 22
Broiler Pan 3 21
Golden Knob 2 16
Piece of Foil 2 16
Star Dust 2 15
Knob 2 14
Fiery Fuse 2 12
Harvest Scythe 2 12

So in a nostalgic throwback to yesteryear, the Fuse and Wiring have topped the charts, each having appeared with five appliances. For those who weren't around back in the early days, Restaurant Story originally only had ten so-called 'basic' parts, with the Fuse and Wiring among them. Combinations of this collection were used a lot, and led to players gifting hordes of these to one another.

Fuse and Wiring

The Fuse has seen the most action during the study period in terms of the total number of individual parts required with 41, well ahead of the Wiring's 30. However typically in recent times the higher individual part request for a machine (usually 10 or 12) has been for the new part added with the accompanying update.

Below the Fuse and Wiring there are five parts with three hits, including another trio of the classics - the Metal Sheet, Motor and Gear. Perhaps more surprising is the Star Knob which featured on the Starry Oven, Theater Oven and Shell Oven. However the last of that threesome of appliances was added in August, so it can't exactly be described as particularly current.

And that brings me on to a related topic, because there has been a discernible pattern to the required parts of late. It dates back to the first of the Halloween updates when the Creepy Stove and Creepy Oven were pushed into the game. Among others the stove asked for six Wiring, while the oven called for eight Fuses. Nothing to get excited about there...

The next update saw the release of the Cauldron Oven and Possessed Drink Machine, neither of which required the Fuse or Wiring. Still nothing to get excited about...

But then we had the Harvest Oven and Leaf Oven, which repeated the trick - six Wiring need for the first and eight Fuses for the second. And following that, the appliances introduced with the Game of Thrones goals did not call for either.

Therefore it looked like a pattern of Fuses and Wiring for one goal set and not the next was forming. However this was then partially broken, with the following two full goal sets asking for that same combination - six Wiring for the first and eight Fuses for the second. So no Fuse and Wiring free goals in-between that time.

And just to throw an extra spanner in the works, the most recent goals have included Wiring as a part for the first cooker (as usual) but not the second. So after all this my pattern is not so discernible after all! But that's the nature of the appliance parts - Storm8 do switch up their methods every now and again, which I suppose is good for keeping the game fresh.

Nevertheless, hopefully this analysis can be of some use - certainly the Fuse and Wiring appear to be the best bets at the moment if you're looking to gift your neighbours something that is likely to be handy in the short term.
