The level 100 journey becomes insurmountable

If you're at level 99 then I suggest taking a look at your profile page. And brace yourself.

Previously it took one hundred million XP (100,000,000 XP) to move up to the coveted level 100. That was already borderline preposterous as it would take the average player quite literally decades to earn that amount of XP. However a select few who have ploughed huge amounts of money (I mean thousands of dollars/pounds) into the game have crossed the chasm and reached level 100.

However in the last couple of days, the level 100 club has been decimated, because the game's developers have changed the required XP to reach level 100 to one billion XP (1,000,000,000 XP). That's a hundred times more than before! Here's how it looked before and after the change...

For most of us this doesn't really change much as we were never going to make it to level 100 anyway, but for those who have spent a fortune to hit the jackpot, there must be some sharp emotions hanging around right now. It must be so disheartening to open the game and find yourself relegated to the not so exclusive 99 club, and I daresay there will be an element of anger too that TeamLava decided to move the goalposts.

The game was never designed for players to reach level 100, and I believe those who did suffered for it with a number of bugs and slow responsiveness. Now we're all back in the same dimension!

I just wonder if any of the old 100 club will try and build the bridge in a bid to reclaim their place as the top player in the game. It might sound infeasible to us mere mortals, but considering the amount of money such players have spent to get where they are, I suspect money is no object. We'll see if they can beat the game again!

  1. I didn't even know there existed level 100 players! But that 1 billion xp just seems ridiculous. I wonder why the game developers do not want players to reach 100? If so, why not cap the level at 99 and actually prevent any level ups, instead of "allowing" people to "waste" gold/gems/$? or maybe that IS the intention, to "encourage" those goal-oriented players to waste time/gold/$? :(

    1. There are issues come up in the game at level 100, but it does the beg the question of why a cap isn't installed at 99.

I think there is a cap at level 100 (ie. no amount of XP will see you reach level 101) so why it couldn't be shifted down to level 99 is a mystery. Your suggestion of TeamLava trying to encourage players to blow money to bridge the gap is dark (!) but is also the only feasible explanation. :)

  2. 1G is "only" 10 times more than 100M, not 100 times... lol, that is a relief!
