Rainy days goals content report

The rain has abated and the clouds have cleared, which means it's time to review the latest set of goals, which pertained to a rainy days theme.

I was away on a jolly this past weekend so expected to fall well behind with these goals, but somehow managed to pull through in time to post this report on schedule. Purchasing and building 15 of the second appliance may have played a role in that!

Let's get to it, starting with a quick thought on the structure of the goals. They don't come much simpler than this batch did, with only the one 'sidestep' en route to glory. And even that sideways goal was of limited use with nothing new to unlock for completing it!

Nevertheless there were four items could be obtained via the goals, starting with the Stormy Stove. The first of the new appliances, this cooker is rather bright in colour. The blue and gold exterior hides the fact that there are some serious recipes on board which have taken too long to be introduced to the game.

The Potato Soup is the standout in this respect - I'm surprised one of the most eaten soups around has taken this amount of time to make an appearance in Restaurant Story!

But how does its statistics stack up? Here are the ratings for the three dishes:

Beef Pho
Profit XP gain Portions Profit per plate Availability Rating
7 2 3 8 5 4.7

Lentil Soup
Profit XP gain Portions Profit per plate Availability Rating
3 1 3 8 5 3.0

Potato Soup
Profit XP gain Portions Profit per plate Availability Rating
4 1 3 10 5 3.6

Low and behold, lots of low scores in there, as usual. The Lentil Soup actually performs better on profit and portions than it first appears - it's the second best goal effort we've had in both departments, but still falls way off the category leaders, resulting in the orange numbers. It deceives nobody when it comes to XP, charting fourth bottom out of 34 recipes of 3 hour duration.

The Potato Soup hasn't got any redeeming features at all, with the XP again the lowest ebb for a frail food.

But the Beef Pho can at least hold its head high somewhat, with a decent profit rating. It's the best profit maker of 1 hour length we have had via goals, and seventh best overall from 48 candidates. Sadly its dreadful XP figure brings it down overall, but it's still one of the higher scoring goal dishes we've had.

The next item unveiled in the goals is the Windy Oven. It's appearance is also off-putting for me - the depiction of a swirling wind with orange leaves blowing around is more in tune with Autumn than Spring, but I guess an appliance means six mastery gems so I shouldn't complain!

The three foods which await on the Windy Oven are more than a little random. Moving from cookies to pizza to potatoes, this is an appliance which covers all bases! Here are the associated ratings:

Choc Oat Cookies
Profit XP gain Portions Profit per plate Availability Rating
4 2 3 10 5 3.9

Pizza Bites
Profit XP gain Portions Profit per plate Availability Rating
4 1 3 10 5 3.6

Tater Tots
Profit XP gain Portions Profit per plate Availability Rating
5 1 4 10 5 4.1

Rainy days? Looks pretty sunny in there with all that yellow if you ask me! It's the XP gain I'd like to focus on with these recipes. All three score absolutely shockingly - the Choc Oat Cookies are third bottom among 4 hour efforts, the Pizza Bites are sixth to last in the 6 hour bracket, and the Tater Tots are third from bottom in the 8 hour classification. Dire stuff.

To compound the misery, compare the stats of the Pizza Bites with those of the Potato Soup. That's right, they're identical! Come on Storm8, surely you can muster the strength to at least vary the numbers of the two foods a little, even if they're both still stinkers!

I'll finish this segment of the analysis on a high note though - all six recipes yield 4 coins per plate. This flies in the face of my whinge in last month's Suggestions Box, and brings some sanity back into our diners. Hopefully the gamemakers are returning to the usual here and not luring us into a false sense of security!

 01/04/15 Update

Next on the agenda is the Candle End Table. A 1x1 floor decoration which unlocks late on in the quest, this is a queer sort of piece. Perhaps I'm missing something, but I can't quite tell what all is on this table. Clearly there are the candles and a torch, but what are all the rectangles with yellow splotches? Notepads with scrambled eggs spilt on them?! Somehow I think not. Despite the nice styling of the table itself I'm afraid this one gets a thumbs down from me.

The last unlockable in this goal set is the final prize, the Blanket Fort. Unusually for a climactic goal prize it is only 3x3 in size, but I think that's sufficient for this decoration. The three kids hiding out are cute and although the boy holding the camera looks like he's got no fingers, I'm still satisfied with it. Mind you, I'm not sure how to utilise this item so it could be settling in for a long haul in storage.

To be honest this has probably been my least favourite set of goals for a good while. Considering the high quality we've been getting in the last few months that's not saying a lot, but I just don't feel the theme had enough about it to be worthy of a goals week. The longing for a dazzling Spring or Easter theme probably added to the slight disappointment too, but hopefully we'll get some Spring stuff in the coming weeks which is less connected to bad weather!
