Notification for Gelato Crate |
If you want to procure some gelato goodies you'll have be willing to part with gems, as this is a box update. The Gelato Crate is a 24 gem buy and upon opening you'll receive one of nine possible prizes. The best of the items up for grabs are the hardest to get, so make sure you're content with the lower end prizes before gambling!
Most of the items in the box are shown in the following preview from the Storm8 Blog:
Items from update as shown on Storm8 Blog |
The first thing to note here is the presence of the bespectacled Tulip Hazel. She is a fourth prize in the Tulip Crate which was added in May, so is not actually available in this crate. Her appearance in the teaser is slightly misleading!
The other key point arising is the fact that only eight prizes are displayed in this image. So there's probably something missing, and based on what we know it's probably a third prize. Nevertheless, here's a distribution list for the Gelato Crate:
First Prize (1% chance)
- Gelato Station
- Gelato Carousel
- Gelato Samples
- Gelato Cart
- Pink Gelato Cone
- Green Gelato Cone
- Gelato Girl
- Gelato Sign
This looks to be a pretty good box (as boxes go!) For me only the Pink Gelato Cone and Green Gelato Cone would be what you'd call a terrible result. Everything else has some merit, although inevitably they're not all worth the 24 gems price tag.
The Gelato Station is actually a recoloured version of the Gelato Machine from Bakery Story.
It was a goal prize last Summer, and is one of the more popular goal items over there. Only the minor details are different, with the general shape being the same. Unfortunately this one doesn't look as good in my view. There's an element of stars and stripes about it which put me in mind of the Independence Day update. I'd honestly have preferred Storm8 to just borrow the design from Bakery Story in its entirety. Having said that it is a cool piece to get for 24 gems, but of course your chances of getting it first time are rather slim!
Then there's the Gelato Carousel. It looks really interesting with its many treats on show in a circular display cabinet. It would have been nice to have a chef in the middle taking care of the various ice creams instead of a table of odds and ends, but that's being extra critical! Overall this decoration gets a thumbs up, and extra credit for being a 4x4 sized second prize - very unusual!
Both the Gelato Cart and Gelato Samples are decent items, although don't justify the box cost. Each could really help bolster a Summer outlook - I know they'd fit right in in my seaside carnival!
All that's left are the Gelato Girl and Gelato Sign. Both are 1x1 and leave me with mixed feelings. I think bots are generally a plus point so the girl is a reasonable get based off that. The sign is difficult to gauge since it is partially obscured in the teaser, but it looks to have a candy floss stuck on top. Hmm. Not sure I'm into that! I'd have preferred something a little more conventional such as the Gelato Menu in Bakery Story (pictured alongside the Gelato Machine in the earlier picture) or more subtle such as the Lemonade Sign from the Lemon goals.
Nevertheless I think there's enough good stuff in this box to make it an investment worth considering if you have the gems in hand. I don't right now having blown most of my savings on my Summer decorating, so will pass, but I suspect plenty of others will take the plunge.
The fact that we've already got a good few items which fit in with ice cream themed stuff really plays into this update. There's already the Ice Cream Crate that was released a year ago next week, and putting together a beach surrounding from the plethora of content in the market will provide the perfect home for your gelato gains. Indeed any Summer oriented outlook will match the Gelato Crate's offerings.
There's no value pack for iOS players this week, but there is something going on in the Boxes tab for everyone. First of all there's a 25% off sale on expansions purchased using gems, around for five days only.
This is the second such sale after one in mid-April just before the first new expansion of 2015 went live. There are substantial savings to be made here, with the potential for being up to 20 gems better off if you opt to expand now.
Since the first expansion sale came around the time of a new expansion addition, maybe we should be on the lookout for another new expansion in the coming days and weeks? Well step down from the crow's nest me hearties, cos there's something sneaking up on both sides!
That's right, for the third time in as many months, there's a new expansion to save for! This one is to 26x29, and comes with the following requirements:
- 22,500,000 coins and 70 neighbours; or
- 80 gems (currently on sale for 60 gems)
Having expanded to 24x27 last month as part of my Summer remodel, I was running the gauntlet to the new final expansion for coins! Now the summit has gained further altitude, and it looks like I'll be chasing the holy grail for even longer! I relish it!
We're almost done, but first a quick review of the Value Pack which was offered to iOS players for a limited time this past Friday.
Limited time Value Pack including three Steampunk items |
It's gone now, but this pack included the Steampunk Fountain, Steampunk Organ and Steampunk Statue. All LTOs from way back, the claim is that this deal is 50% off. I actually claim it's more than that - the original prices of these three decorations were 64, 34 and 32 gems respectively, so 130 gems in total. The £7.99 gem pack gives 50 gems in the UK, so you're looking at more than 60% off.
I adore the Steampunk content and have invested a lot of gems on the theme over time, but just cannot bring myself to spend real money to procure any more. And I have the Steampunk Time Machine anyway so can turn my back on the Value Pack no problem!
That's it for this week! The lack of regular content and recipes is always a little disheartening in box updates, but at least we have a new expansion and a sale to enjoy as we lick our delicious ice creams in the beautiful sunshine!
