RS2 News (Oct 2017)

It's been a while now since my previous round-up of the activity in Restaurant Story 2, so let the discussion commence.

This is perfectly summarised by a new collection of goals from Lani (the 21st edition) which followed the same structure and procedure as always. I am now set in my ways with Lani and her boring tasks - I complete the gold stamp goal and ignore the two silver stamp goals. Strangely the gold stamp goal is typically the simplest of the three, with the difficulty I suppose attributed to the shorter time-frame. But with the flexibility to choose our own start point this is generally an easy gold stamp.

Something needs to change with stamp accumulation. Lani has very much run her course and with more and more long standing players likely to be mastering all the stamp recipes, I think Storm8 need to be thinking about applying some innovation. Stamps can usually be gained from cruise events, but something more substantial is needed to freshen things up. And preferably not involving dear old Lani.

On we go, and ring the bells - we have new content to celebrate! In particular there were five dishes introduced alongside the Summer Food Expo cruise event rather than the usual one. In order to access them Expo Tickets were needed, and these were obtained by ploughing through the cruise itself.

Every second day rewarded a new Expo Ticket, and a side-along goal set allowed these to be used to unlock the recipes. Nicoise Salad, Lettuce Salad, Sangria and Pasta Salad were the first four, with only the Sangria being particularly stingy when it comes to ingredients. It calls for 6 Sugar which is bordering on the ridiculous.

Then comes the Mixed Berry Cobbler, opened up using the Diamond Expo Ticket handed over by Ramon the Expo Host upon making a one-off visit to the restaurant at the conclusion of the cruise. Up until this point the overall response to this new-look cruise was of satisfaction, but that was about to be turned on its head. As opposed to the standard cruise final prize, the cobbler only comes with the 'potential' to yield gems, with the majority of drops for cooking it being coins.

Although an alternative goal was set up for anyone who didn't partake in the side-along goals, I'm sure just about everyone did give them a shot, and consequently a lot of effort had been put in to get hold of the cobbler. Seeing it drop only coins is so disheartening. Add in that it takes a mammoth 18 hours to cook, requires two of the stamp ingredients to prepare and is located on the already packed out Jubilee Oven, and you have an event which has flopped at the very last.

The change up was appreciated, although the cynic in me can't help but acknowledge that there was still no new decor. Essentially stamp prizes were replaced by Expo Tickets, meaning that when you zoom out and take in the bigger picture there wasn't actually a whole lot was different. Wow I'm grumpy!

Regarding my personal progress, being away on holiday naturally took its toll. However these are the occasions when saving up all those quick serves comes in handy - I used 24 quick serves along with seven gems in order to complete day 10. I still have over 1,500 quick serves so not exactly a painful loss there!

And from the Expo cruise we moved to the Rock Star Life cruise event. This was the second ever cruise theme back in May 2015 and returns with a Donut Cheeseburger up for grabs. Really?! A quick search reveals that this genuinely is a thing in the real world, but I couldn't find out why...

Notification for Rock Star Life cruise event

The burger (donut?) needs Yellow Chilli Peppers as its special ingredient, and is delivered by Gnat the Rock Start once you finish the cruise. For most players that will be tomorrow whilst for me it will be on Monday.

I realise I've already given the Donut Cheeseburger a hard time, but it's about to get worse because I've just discovered what other ingredients it needs - 4 Flour, 4 Beef and 7 Sugar. Excuse me? Seven sugar?! That ensures that another cruise prize gets a negative review from me.

Fair to say it's not been a particularly good month in the sequel game then. It's been a long time since Restaurant Story 2 has truly excited me, and that's reflected in the fact that as well as having over 1,500 quick serves in the bank I've got 68 million coins and 3,500 gems. With no new content introduced beyond recipes in so many moons, there's just nothing worth spending any of it on. Quite simply the game is becoming a chore, but at least writing these posts allows me to vent effectively!

  1. I agree completely. The recipes in this game that are rewarded for events are starting to make no sense. For example, cooking a island cold brew and a summer cup on an oven? Also, in the summer expo why are the salads cooked on the dinner stove instead of the salad bar. Makes no sense.

    1. I'm guessing it's related to the level at which the various appliances unlock - prize recipes need to be available to all players.

However that doesn't stop it being illogical. It flags up a flaw in the game - at this rate we're going to end up with a select few appliances carrying an unmanageable number of recipes and many more cookers with only a few. :)
