Firstly there is the Chinese Dessert Oven...

The goal recipes are just so predictable. And lousy too.
The Chinese Sticky Cake offers just 19 XP for your hour of waiting. Only four 1 hour recipes give less XP yield. It's stats for profit and portions fair slightly better, but they are only a tad above average at this duration. Basically, there are much better alternatives out there if you're free to regularly check in - the Thick Cut Bacon (Old West Oven) if you've got access gives 61 XP while Portabello Mushrooms (Basic Grill) give 1,000 coins in profit as opposed to this cake's no good 600 coins.
Moving on to the Almond Cookies, it becomes the 42nd active 4 hour dish in the game, the largest of all the durations. It's a competitive bunch, and these cookies fail to match their fellows. The profit level ties for ninth worst out of all those 4 hour recipes, while the portions figure in the bottom six. The XP gain doesn't figure right at the bottom end, but is instead right on the average for a dish of this length. Still nothing to get excited about though.
This leaves the Egg Custard Tarts. The 8 hour recipes are the second most populated, and it's safe to say that these tarts won't be giving the leaders in this field any problems. The numbers on this dessert are below the average across the board (2,513 coins profit, 930 portions, 79 XP). To demonstrate why you shouldn't keep cooking the tarts beyond the mastery gems, let me compare it to the elite of the 8 hour realm:
Recipe | Profit | Portions | XP Gain |
---|---|---|---|
Egg Custard Tarts (Chinese Dessert Oven) | 2,100 | 725 | 65 |
Pumpkin Cheesecake (Basic Oven) | 4,230 | 1,450 | 126 |
Escargots with Lamb (Basic Grill) | 3,570 | 1,225 | 137 |
That cheesecake and lamb will take some beating!
Time to turn the attention to the other new appliance, namely the Dim Sum Stove. Here are its recipes:

It'll come as no surprise that these dishes fare no better than those on the Chinese Dessert Oven.
The Turnip Pudding has inferior stats across the board, with the NY Strip Steak (Basic Grill) providing double the profit and portions plus a greater XP, despite being a 2 hour recipe!
The Chinese Dumplings also struggle to make an impact. It has similar numbers to the Rascal Stew (Saloon Stove) and Mashed Potato Trees (Christmas Feast Oven), which both got written off very quickly. As I did when analysing those, I point you in the direction of the likes of Escargot (Basic Stove) and Kiwi & Cake (Basic Oven). Those are significantly more efficient 6 hour recipes.
To round us off are the Long Life Noodles. The profit for this dish is the third worst of all current 12 hour recipes, and the portions are the second worst. But there is a saving grace of sorts here. The XP gain for the noodles is 110 XP, which is the second best in the division. Only Tiramisu (Basic Oven) gives more, so at least we've got a dish with some merit, even if it is only on one front.
But overall it's yet another mediocre batch of goal recipes. When are the game's developers going to shake things up and give us some corkers on the goal appliances? I'll leave that question unanswered...
I had a huge stockpile of food built up before the Christmas goals, but those recipes nearly wiped me out. I finally built my supply back up, but now it looks like I'm in for much of the same! *sigh* It's a bit frustrating, but I guess if it were too easy then there would be no challenge. I'd like to master all of the goal recipes but with these numbers I'm not sure it's possible. During Christmas the only two I were able to master were the Christmas Tree Cupcakes and Light Cookies. The rest simply weren't productive enough.
ReplyDeleteIf you look back at your post at Christmas, you'll notice something familiar about this set of goal recipes. Same durations on the two ovens (1, 4, 8 and 3, 6, 12 respectively) and the only good stat across all 6 dishes was the XP gains on the 12 hour dish.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's nice that we get 12 free gems but if they're just going to replicate everything with only minor alterations from one set of goals to the next, I think you should feel free to copy and paste over blog posts as well. :)
I noticed the similarities as well. The lack of both recipes with quality stats and unpredictability is making the goal recipes a bit stale.
DeleteThese recipe reports are proving a bit of a repetition which is a shame. With every single dish I'm tempted to just write "see recipe x from report y" for a lowdown. :)
I just started playing, my question is, can I sell the goal items after they have been purchased, or must I keep them? They don't go with my decor so I put them in storage, but have not sold them 'cause I'm afraid I'll need them.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly can sell them, and it's won't affect your progress in the goals. Once you've completed a goal that involves purchases that's it completed for good. And purchases of the same item aren't required again within the same goal set.
DeleteBut note that you'll typically get only a tenth of an item's market value in return for selling it.
And remember that goal items may be removed at some point after the relevant goals have expired. So be absolutely sure before you sell them! :)
Thank you so much for your input and quick response.
DeleteFor some reason all my dim sum ovens have disappeared
