More news on Restaurant Story 2

Following on from the news that Restaurant Story 2 is on its way, a community manager over on the TeamLava Forum has provided the answers to some of the questions that may be on the minds of RS1 players:
Will Restaurant Story continue to get updates?
Absolutely! We have a very vibrant community of players and we hope you all will continue to enjoy your Restaurants for a long time. Restaurant Story 2 is a completely different game with loads of new features. We encourage you to try it out and enjoy playing both games! We will continue to provide content updates for Restaurant Story as long as there are players playing it!

Where are the Restaurant Story 2 forums?
The forums will be up when the game is available for all users to download and play on the available platform(s). Since the game is still in limited release, you can post in the Restaurant Story forums. The limited release allows us to work on additional polishes for the game, but also fix any bugs that get reported before releasing the game for everyone to try and play.

I don't see Restaurant Story 2 in the iTunes App Store. When will I be able to download and play it?
Restaurant Story 2 is currently in limited release while we make the final touches on it before releasing it to all App Store regions for everyone to download and enjoy. When the game is ready for a worldwide release, we will definitely keep you updated with new Restaurant Story 2 forums and other social media content.

Will Restaurant Story 2 be available on the Google Play Store for Android?
The goal is to make our games available for all players to enjoy, regardless of the platform you are playing on. At this time, we are currently working on improvements on the Android development side, so you'll need to stay tuned until we are able to provide updates on the progress. We know Android players are interested in trying all of our new games and we thank you for patiently waiting while we continue to work on Android development.

Is this a change in direction for TeamLava games?
We don't think so. Our goal is to continue to make games with new features that our players want. There are many that have been playing Restaurant Story for a long time, so we know you have grown attached to your Restaurant and all the wonderful friendships you have created. If you enjoy Restaurant Story, definitely continue to play it, but we do encourage you to try Restaurant Story 2 before providing any negative feedback. Our talented team behind Restaurant Story 2 have spent a lot of time developing the game and polishing the new features that we can't wait to see everyone enjoy. Definitely give Restaurant Story 2 a try when it's available for everyone and share your feedback, so we can discuss and use it to continue improving Restaurant Story 2 for everyone.
This information is much appreciated, and at least shines a light on a few things. Firstly, the gamemakers still seem to be committed to providing regular updates for RS1. This is great news as the weekly updates are what keep the game ticking over and give veteran players something to come back for.

However when Farm Story was superceded by Farm Story 2, the continuation of regular updates were promised for the former, yet I hear this didn't happen. Farm Story died a slow and painful death, so we can only take this promise for RS1 with a pinch of salt.

The confusion over the availability of RS2 in selected App Stores around the world has been dampened. It seems the new game is in the beta stage of development, where real users are used as guinea pigs to test the game's robustness when confronted with larger numbers of players. Only the few who have had an opportunity to play RS2 would be able to confirm if the game is working well or if there are numerous bugs appearing that still need ironing out. If the latter then it could be a blessing in disguise that RS2 hasn't arrived globally just yet.

Title screen for Restaurant Story 2

The last news to discuss is that of the Android version. From the above quote, I'm getting the sense that an Android edition of RS2 does not currently exist. I honestly think that the disparity between the iOS and Android versions of RS1 has been overplayed in the past (but then again I am a cosy 'iOSer') but if this is the case then that would be a huge shame - developing apps for Android is trickier because of the range of different devices which use the Android market, but to have no Android version at all (for now) will disappoint a lot of people.

Keep a look out for more news on Restaurant Story 2!

  1. Hmm. I don't know how to take in this news.
As much as I (briefly) enjoyed FS1, I am currently liking FS2, and I'm sure RS2 has great, much-needed features too... But... I know many players have invested great time and energy into RS, and I already feel terrible if anyone has to drop it all and is forced to transition to RS2. I would also dearly miss visiting all the beautiful and innovative restaurants (although surely RS2 will have its own share of those too).
I wonder, why does it have to be a separate, standalone version, than just an upgrade? Or, are they not interested in transferring ("recognizing") at least some of the work the long-time players have put in?

    :(

    1. I'm apprehensive too.

I never played FS1, but did give FS2 a go in order to obtain some extra gems in my main TeamLava games. And I didn't really like it - a big part of the problem was that it crashed regularly and had a number of bugs, usually involving buttons not reacting to being tapped. This may be down to my third generation iPod Touch struggling with the demands of a game with so much focus on quality graphics, but it doesn't bode well for RS2 regardless.

The thought of having to give up my RS1 place and start again is very disheartening. The prospect of a blank canvas is exciting, but it takes a lot of work and patience to build an empire. I'm unsure whether I have the motivation to do it all again from scratch. I feel particularly sorry for those who have spent a fortune on the game - all the content that money has been spent on will one day vanish. It's why I could never spend vast amounts of cash on what is effectively pixels.

But one positive is that at least we'll have the chance to play RS2 from day one (once released globally). I envy those players who can claim to have been active in RS1 from the very start, and would love to be able to boast the same - i just need to enjoy RS2 enough to stick with it! :)

    2. I totally agree with you. Hmm, vanishing empire vs blank canvas (although as a recent "return-er", I already had to re-start from scratch! >_<)...
Good thing you pointed out the graphics. I did notice FS2 being a bit more of a memory hogger. Haven't had much issues with crashing or tapping buttons (I think this bug exists in some form in all games, so that people will accidentally click "use gem" :P), but it can be slow to load, especially after being in the background for a while.
But the graphics... is quite an improvement, and just imagine how our savory dishes might look in brighter colors and higher resolution... Mmmm...might be worth the price! But then, my phone's memory may not be able to support both FS2 and RS2 running at the same time! :)

  2. Ha, we have many similar thoughts here...

It would be fun to be in on the ground floor, to be one of those restaurants that you envy because they have all the old goals stuff.

And actually, I was considering buying gems at my next 30% sale, for only the second time, but hearing about RS2 stopped me for your exact reason, that I'd rather not sink money into a game they're on the verge of abandoning. Of course, they say they won't, but they've said that before, so many times, that they have to know it sounds a bit ridiculous, right?

There's also the fact that I hate FS2. The limited storage space is a nightmare and it's so much more time consuming than RS/BS/FS1. Forcing you to produce certain items, having so many required things with such a short duration, it's a black hole. There's basically no way I'd be willing to play FS2 the way I play RS; I hate that you can't set the game up to be self sufficient for a day and not worry about it, but still accomplish something.

I'm a bit down on the whole thing, I guess. I'll have to try to let my desire to have that plaque y'all all got from last year's spring goals (or at least whatever version of that plaque RS2 will eventually have) motivate me to be a bit excited!

    1. I didn't realise that plaque was so sought-after!

All we can do is enjoy RS1 while it lasts and give RS2 a go when it becomes available to all. But I'm not holding out much hope personally either.

I'd be interested to know how long you think we have left of weekly updates for RS1? Presumably there's still plenty of new content has been designed and is ready for implementing so it only makes sense to release it otherwise it would have been a waste of time and money creating these items. But the question is how long this will last for... :)

    1. Whoops! I accidentally deleted your comment! Here it is:

'Whats up with level 49? the number of stars that you need to get to level 50 is totally ridiculous! Anyone know whats going on there? Any tips? I want to keep playing however it would take more than a lifetime to get that many stars and I am probably going to just delete the app now.'

This is typical of TeamLava games. Level 49 is currently intended to be the maximum level so you're not supposed to be able to reach level 50!

I've been at the top level in RS1 for a long time but am still addicted. There's much more to do than just level up - you can try and master every recipe and there are new sets of goals (like the current Valentine's one) every so often too. And you can always keep redecorating your place. :)
