Suggestions Box (Nov 2014)

Every month I list five things I'd like to see added, altered or abolished from the game. Because even though my long time of playing Restaurant Story clearly shows I love it, that doesn't mean it's perfect. Some of the ideas I'll air will be significant game changers while others will be low-key and irrelevant in the eyes of many of you readers.

In no particular order, here are this month's entries...

#71: Add snowy floor tiles for coins

I've discussed this before, but with Christmas (and more generally, Winter) on the horizon, now is a good time to reiterate my desire for snowy floor tiles.

Now we do actually have one at present, namely the Winter Floor. But it costs 1 gem each so isn't in my price range. I'm thinking more about a snowy tile for COINS! As it stands my outdoor section is going to be looking both sparse and strange this Winter, with the Waves or Clouds flooring offering some makeshift snow.

Even if TeamLava were just to chuck in the Snowy Tile straight out of Bakery Story, I'd be delighted. And I'd even pay up the 17,000 coins per square that it costs over there, even if it makes me bankrupt. Some snowy flooring is right at the top of my Christmas wishlist!

#72: Provide sales on non-box content

In each of the last two updates, there has been a sale on one of the boxes.

Notification for sale on Autumn Gift Box

Two weeks ago it was the Autumn Gift Box which was on offer at 25% off, with the Horn of Plenty enjoying the same deal this week. I'd love to see these sales replicated with other high priced gem content. It could remain focused on items which are relevant to the current time of year. So as an example, consider the Spring Wedding. It's a floor decoration normally costing 41 gems, but in March there could be a limited time 25% off sale, meaning it costs only 31 gems.

I'm in no doubt that this kind of offer would pull the players in, particularly if specific to the season.

#73: Allow wall decorations to be moved

This suggestion is from Fat Bear, and is one I endorse fully!

Right now when you want to move a placed wall decoration the process is rather laborious, with the item having to be stored and then placed again in another position. This can be a real pain when you are trying to redecorate and find an optimum place for everything.

The solution could hardly be simpler. Allow wall decorations to be dragged around the walls, much like they can be when first being placed. It's not an issue for floor decorations and so on, so I don't get why it should pose a problem for wall items.

#74: Allow part gifts to be sold for coins

Does anybody else get irritated by useless part gifts hanging around in the 'My Gifts' section? Bunny Ears and Painted Eggs don't exactly come in handy too often!

Some examples of 'useless' parts in 'My Gifts' section

Of course technically speaking they're not doing any harm there. You can hold over 30,000 of each part (of course that's only relevant for food gifts!) and as far as I know there is no limit on the number of different parts you can house. But it's all rather untidy.

So TeamLava should introduce a system which allows you to sell unwanted and unnecessary gifts for coins. I'm not talking about big returns here, but some sort of gain for parting with these troublesome parts would be much appreciated.

#75: Add another digit to LTO timer

It's another aesthetic based quibble. Of late the timer included in the notification for limited time offers has looked rather messy.

Action Ice Cream Maker limited time offer

Since there are over 100 hours on the clock to begin with, but only two spaces for the number of hours in the countdown, the first two digits are both being squeezed into the same space. We should get an extra space added in there to make it nice and neat! Or even better, add another unit for days remaining as this is easier to interpret for the players.

This has absolutely no bearing on my gameplay and is nitpicking of the highest order, but I'm highly skilled in the field of nitpicking, so there you have it!

  1. Always wonderful reading your suggestions boxes, I have to agree with you wholeheartedly on the suggestion for snowy floor tiles for the upcoming winter. This is in fact my biggest fear about re-decorating for this beautiful season.

I am a huge fan of outdoor scenes, and I have spent many gems on the Winter Wonderland box which has given me beautiful snowy outdoor scenes, but as you know, without the proper floor tiles, it's so difficult not to have them look slightly out of place... and with the amount of floor tiles it takes to decorate any outdoor scene I don't even want to think about the existing (gem priced) snowy tile.

I'm banking everything on a snowy tile released for (hopefully) Christmas goals at the beginning of December - because without a snowy tile, I really won't be able to design what I'm hoping to... of course we all make do, it's just that after such wonderful grassy tiles released during the last few months, I've come to think that the choice of floor tile can really make a scene pop!

    1. I wanted a sand floor tile for coins. We got sand a sand floor tile for coins.

I wanted a plain grass floor tile for coins. We got a plain grass floor tile for coins.

I want a snowy floor tile for coins. Go on TeamLava!

In all seriousness, the release of those two generic tiles this year gives me real hope that the time might be coming for our dreams to be realised! :)

    2. I also agree about a snowy floor tile for coins! I listed it in the Holiday Suggestion Thread back when it was still open, so hopefully between that and this blog, TeamLava sees the demand for it and we'll get one! :D

Although, admittedly, I'm hoping for New Year goals, so maybe these can come as part of a regular update :3

I second Fat Bear's suggestion for movable wall decorations. It would make my regular makeovers much easier! ;)

    3. Are you hoping for New Year goals instead of Christmas goals, or after the festive business is done with?

In 2011 there was both, but since then New Year has always been overlooked (at least for goals). Unless New Year goals come on Christmas Eve (a Wednesday this year) there's really just not the time to do both justice, which is a shame.

I'm glad you've called for snowy flooring for coins in the suggestions thread! We need to drum up all the support we can get. If we get this it will be a great victory for the players! :D

  2. (Good gravy, I'm having so many typos! Excuse the previous deletions; I'm adjusting to a new keyboard).

I'd like New Year's goals instead of Christmas goals. I feel like Christmas is a major enough holiday that we would get a lot of content for it regardless of goals (case in point: last year, aside from goals, we got a new box, LTOs, basic appliance recipes, and items from previous years, all of which related to the holiday), so goals around New Year's would be great to have.

Just based on the calendar alone, I'm assuming the release schedule would go something like this:

Dec 3: winter content (including a snowy coin tile!)
    Dec 10: goals
Dec 17: potentially Hanukkah-themed content, since Hanukkah starts just the day before, and Christmas content, judging by last year's combined update
    Dec 24: Christmas EVERYTHING
Dec 31: Potentially New Year's, but also potentially Kwanzaa

So, New Year's has the potential of getting overlooked again :(

I think the best combination would be a 12 Days of Christmas/Advent Calendar event alongside New Year's goals. That way, we get a good amount of content for both events, with enough time to decorate for both as well. Add a gem sweepstakes/giveaway by TeamLava, and that would look to be a fantastic holiday season :D

    1. As much as your mock schedule makes lots of sense, I can't really warm to the idea of the December goals being anything other than Christmas themed.

Perhaps this is just a consequence of being so used to festive goals every year, but I think it's more likely to be down to my love of the theme. In these games Christmas is to me what Halloween seems to be to so many others - it's the big one as far as I'm concerned and I'd be disappointed to get a goal set revolving around anything else (even if New Year is a strong theme in itself).

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree on this one! :P

    2. Am I the only one who thinks of New Year festivities as part of Christmas festivities? I mean New Year's Day is literally a week from Christmas Day, and we all still have our Christmas trees up!

    3. That is true. I'd be quite happy to see New Year themed stuff being intertwined with Christmas content throughout December, although for me it should be accompanying the festive items rather than itself being the main attraction. Only the update between Christmas and New Year (which will this year be on New Year's Eve) should be focused on New Year.

That's just my take though! :)
