Game update: 29/06/17

Just as we were on the brink of the first month in Restaurant Story history to provide us with only one update, an in-game pop up introduced a special event with items re-released and on sale.

Notification for summer themed sale

It has to be said that we've been needing this sale. It may not bring any new content or themes, but it does at least give us something to discuss, and that's not been all that common recently. The water park themed goals were the only update in June up until this point, and the release prior to that was the theatre themed quest which was now five-and-a-half weeks ago.

I won't dwell on this topic since it's something I groan about in every post now, but it is sad to see the game move so far away from its timely updates week to week.

So what of this summer sale? In all there are 36 items have been given the orange border treatment, including 10 floor decorations and six boxes (thanks to Fat Bear for pointing out a forgotten item!).

Summer sale items

There are six days on the clock, so you should ensure that any of these goodies which catch your eye are paid for before next Wednesday.

Essentially this collection is formed from the combination of two updates of yesteryear. The summer dreams decor from August 2014 and the Independence Day stuff from July 2015 are interwoven, with the latter having been a goals update. Unfortunately Storm8 have opted against including any of the three floor decorations which were prizes in that quest, which is a shame since two years on it would have been nice to open them up to newer players and those who were unable to attain them first time round.

There are one or two other pieces have been thrown in too, including the Lazy Sunday which has only ever been included in a limited time offer format. Unfortunately at a colossal 70 gems it isn't exactly competitively priced, with the emphasis clearly on the fact that it is available at all rather than any potential discount.

However there are some bargains to be had. The Summer Fun at 10 gems is a steal in my view, while the half price boxes are undoubtedly an attraction. And remember I now have the Crate Catalogue available for your browsing pleasure. Using this tool you can inspect the prizes within any box prior to taking the gamble, including the set of crates which are marked down in this sale.

These are all pretty good boxes for my money, and could certainly aid your cause when it comes to making your diner as summery as possible. The Bonfire Crate is the only one I've actually opened, but I have picked up a number of the decorations from the other boxes via sales over time. They're definitely worth thinking about, especially at just 12 gems a go.

Overall this is a well rounded sale and re-release. We've got a 50:50 split between coin and gem items which is rarely the case, and there's also a bit of everything included as far as the market categories are concerned. The likes of the wallpapers are often overlooked for these types of event, but here there are six - only the floor decorations tab boasts more deals.

It's also satisfying in my opinion that this is not a wholly July the Fourth based event. Given that I am not from the US I've never really had any affinity for the Independence Day themed content, so by providing a range of decor which includes some generic summer trinkets, the gamemakers have ensured that non-US players such as myself are well catered for too. Plus it is too close to July the Fourth now to really justify a hefty spend on that particular holiday, at least in my book.

Well, thank goodness we've been awoken from our slumber. The water park themed goals expired on Tuesday, which means there is a decent chance another quest will be hitting our restaurants next week. Perhaps we're about to return to weekly updates! That may be wishful thinking, but I'm determined that regular posting on this blog will continue, and that will be underlined by a double dose this weekend - a showcase is coming on Saturday, whilst Sunday will bring a tour of my place, The Garlic Tree, which is about to undergo it's annual refurbishment. Busy few days ahead!

  1. I didn't even realize that we had only had one update in all of June prior to this sale until I read your first line. Wow - that's rather shocking. I'm attributing the single instance to the timing of the goals for this month, but I certainly hope it doesn't become the norm.

I had mixed feelings about this sale - on one hand, I liked that the summery items had been chosen to be marked down, as it meant newer Android players could finally access these items, especially the grass tile. Due to the app release scheduling, those items were introduced with a previous version of RS for Android and so not every Android player had them.

I also liked seeing some more "vintage" RS items like the Celebration Balloons and the Fireworks Display go on sale - having never seen those items before, it was exciting to get an opportunity to buy them this time around. This is also something I'd like to see for future sales - older items which have come back temporarily.

The mixed feeling comes from the lack of box prizes being offered as part of the sale. It seems like we just don't get those anymore, and I miss that. I wonder if S8 could offer them as LTOs every now and then - it would be a nice surprise between goals every now and then :)

    1. Totally agree on the return of 'vintage' items in sales. Having played the game for so long it's not often that something is brought back that I haven't seen before, which makes such items that bit more exciting. I might just have to borrow this for the Suggestions Box!

And in a similar vein, perhaps I should use the Suggestions Box to campaign for LTOs to return? If they popped up on a weekly basis it would certainly help fill the void between goal sets. :)
