Game update: 16/10/13

Halloween is now two weeks away, so it's time to stock up on candy!

Notification for latest Halloween 2013 update

The latest update is candy themed, so those going guising will be showered in sweets. Here's a full list of all the new content:

Tables:
  • Candy Table - 33,000 coins
Chairs:
  • Candy - 11,000 coins
Wall decorations:
  • Candy Dispenser - 8 gems
Floor decorations:
  • Candy Stand - 16 gems
Wallpapers:
  • Candy Corn - 1 gem
Counters:
  • Candy - 30,000 coins

There is also a new recipe on the Basic Oven. More on that shortly.

So, a slight surprise that we've gotten a candy related update in the Halloween series. The Candy Corn wallpaper is the only clue that we are dealing with Halloween courtesy of the Jack-o-lantern at the centre of it. Otherwise the items could have been released at any time of the year. I wonder if TeamLava are trying to appeal to those who are not interested in Halloween?

A big plus on this update is the triple boost of the Candy Table, Candy Chair and Candy Counter all costing coins. So you can get that consistency around your restaurant for this theme without spending any gems.

The top items are gem purchases though. The Candy Stand is no bargain at 16 gems - it is a 2x1 piece and having previewed it, I can report that the figure standing alongside it is tiny. She's dwarfed by the other 'people' available in the game such as the Swedish Server and Action Chef Lee.

Another gem item is the Candy Dispenser. It's a nice decoration in my view, as it fills the wall and is more interesting than a lot of the wall decorations already available.

As I've touched upon, there's a new recipe aboard the Basic Oven:

New recipe on Basic Oven

I guess the Candy Corn Cupcakes are a sibling to the Candy Corn Pizza from last Halloween.

It's stats don't fill me with excitement unfortunately. The 51 XP is very ordinary for a 4 hour dish with many higher yielding alternatives. Likewise the profit and portion numbers are average. This recipe's data is actually very similar to the Ghost Peppers (Basic Stove) and Mummy Dog (Bewitched Oven) released with the initial Halloween update. And both of those were poor!

On to some housekeeping, and the Halloween recipes added two weeks ago on the Basic appliances have now all been moved from their starting positions in the recipe lists. Here's where you'll find them now:
  • Devilish Eggs (Basic Stove) is between Stew and Ghost Peppers.
  • Ghost Peppers (Basic Stove) is between Devilish Eggs and Seafood Paella.
  • Pumpkin Soup (Basic Stove) is between Seafood Paella and Garden Salad.
  • Handburger (Basic Grill) is between BBQ Wings and Grilled Salmon.

So that concludes another update review. An unusual choice of Halloween theme (where are the spooks?) but at least it's something which doesn't immediately lose the interest of non-Halloween celebraters.

There are two more Wednesdays before Halloween (which falls on a Thursday) so I wonder what else is in store for us? There's hasn't been a box as of yet, so that could be next week's main attraction, while perhaps the final Halloween update will be a re-release of last year's content including the old recipes. That would be great!
