Game update: 02/10/13

Halloween has arrived in Restaurant Story!

Notification for Halloween update

The update was a few hours late in release, presumably due to a spooky gremlin in the system.

As of yet, there is no new edition of the app as there was last year, but there are loads of new items and a brand spanking new set of goals to get our fangs into.

Here's a list of all the new content:

Tables:
  • Pumpkin Table - 3 gems
  • Vampire Bat Table - 81,000 coins
  • Spider Table - 4,300 coins
Chairs:
  • Vampire Bat Chair - 2 gems
  • Pumpkin Stool - 3,500 coins
  • Spiderweb Chair - locked by goal
Wall decorations:
  • Crashing Witch - 14 gems
  • Creepy Window - 6,900 coins
  • Halloween Sign - 18,000 coins
Floor decorations:
  • Pumpkin Patch - 35 gems (LTO)
  • Zombie Grave - 36,000 coins
  • Jack-o'-lanterns - 48,500 coins
  • Halloween Desserts - 49,800 coins
  • Lab Equipment - locked by goal
  • Costume Contest - locked by goal
  • Lab Assistant - locked by goal
Wallpapers:
  • Haunted Hill - 1 gem
  • Fall Ivy - 1 gem
  • Scary Shadows - 2,900 coins
Floor tiles:
  • Happy Halloween - 750 coins
  • Haunted Floorboards - 950 coins
Appliances:
  • Confection Lab - locked by goal
  • Bewitched Stove - locked by goal
Counters:
  • Bat Cave - 6 gems
  • Pumpkin Counter - 8 gems
  • Skeletal Counter - 5,700 coins

That's some list! This is the most populated update I have seen in a long time. Huge credit to TeamLava who are living up to the high expectations which come with one of the pillars of their year.

Before we get into some analysis, a reminder that you will be required to purchase some the above items in the goals, so it's worth holding off initially.

There's a fine mix of coin and gem content available, with a variety of themes within the Halloween vibe that players can choose to decorate their restaurant with. Of these little themes the pumpkin one excites me the most. The Pumpkin Table and Pumpkin Chair go together wonderfully, while the Jack-o'-lanterns are great value at 48,500 coins (it's a 2x2 piece). The Pumpkin Patch and Pumpkin Counter also match up nicely, but are considering more expensive weighing in at 35 gems and 8 gems respectively. Note that the Pumpkin Patch is a limited time offer and is only around for five days (from Wednesday).

Pumpkin Patch limited time offer

But the other floor decorations are all for coins or available free through the goals, so this is a fantasic opportunity to really go to town with the Halloween theme. I'm particularly impressed by the Lab Experiment which is 3x3 in size and quite tall too. Please note that this was originally offered unlocked accidentally, but is now locked by goal. Getting the Lab Assistant (again, from the goals) is a must to go alongside it.

Meanwhile the wallpapers and floor tiles offer good value too. Okay, only one of the three wallpapers is for coins (namely the Scary Shadows) but it is a fraction of the price of the last few wallpaper releases. And the two floor tiles are dirt cheap in comparison to last week's Fall Foliage which came in at 6,000 coins each.

There are also two new appliances to build - the Confection Lab and Bewitched Stove are both unlocked via the goals, and contain three recipes each. Plus there are four new recipes across the regular appliances. So lots to be getting on with. For a full report on all the new recipes, click here.

As I've referenced several times, there is a new goal set. For details pertaining to those, click here.

Introduction to Halloween 2013 goals

I'm sure its going to be enjoyable to work through this one! My only irritation is that the Old West goals are still active, and will remain so for a couple of weeks yet, meaning that the workload for players yet to complete those will be a tad high.

But that's just a minor nag really as this is a bumper update with a bit of everything. No tricks, but lots of treats!

    1. Are you playing on Android vgc82 (or even the 2012 Halloween edition on iOS)? Because they don't look to be unlocked in the regular iOS version.

A Halloween edition was released to Android yesterday so I assume you're playing on it - is there any other old content unlocked as well? :)
