Game update: 13/11/13

Before I begin to discuss this week's Thanksgiving themed update, I want to bring your attention to a notification which hopefully all players have now had:

Notification for Halloween removals

Now it's nice that TeamLava had gone to the bother of notifying us in advance of a content removal, but I'm still not satisfied - this message doesn't clarify a couple of things.

The Halloween content removal has now taken place - more information here.

Firstly, will the Halloween themed recipes on the basic appliances be removed? There have been six such dishes, and it would be a shame (and slightly unfair) if they were pulled just over a month after being introduced as this is not a long time for players to master them.

And secondly, does this removal consist of all Halloween stuff currently in the game or just the 2012 items which were re-released in the final Halloween update? Remember that at the time, the re-release of the 2012 content was described as for 'limited time' so those things are certain to go, but the 2013 items are still up in the air.

So my suggestion is to buy any Halloween related gear that you like BEFORE Friday (who knows when on Friday the removal will happen!) There's no guarantee of anything staying, so take no chances. As for the recipes, I'm safe because I mastered them all at the time, but for the many of you who haven't extracted the two mastery gems, I'd say prioritise this even above the Thanksgiving goals. After all you've got until into December to complete those.

My content removal page currently includes all recipes, tables and appliances (with other categories to follow) which may be removed in the New Year - it's worth taking a look at those which fall under the Halloween theme.

Right, after that digression, let's focus on the game update itself.

Notification for latest Thanksgiving update

The Thanksgiving theme continues with a new box introduced.

The Horn of Plenty is the only item added this week as is often the case when a box comes out. For 24 gems you get a dip into the box, which contains nine floor decorations available only through this means. Some are small and obscure (4th prizes) while others are massive and extravagant (1st and 2nd prizes).

Here's a distribution list for all the prizes I've found out about so far:

First Prize (1% chance)
  • ?
Second Prize (10% chance)
  • Mayflower Playpen
  • Parade Balloon
Third Prize (35% chance)
  • Appetizer Bench
  • Pie Table
Fourth Prize (54% chance)
  • Pilgrim Waiter
  • Pilgrim Waitress
  • Plymouth Rock
  • Turkey Honeycomb
If you open the box and are lucky enough to get the 1st prize, please comment below!

If it weren't for the looming possibility of Black Friday sales, I'd probably be taking one or two dips into the Horn of Plenty box. Autumn and Thanksgiving seems to provide my favourite content of the year (all that warm orange!) so I'd be pulled into taking a gamble. However I'm going to sit on my gem fund which is into three figures now!

 11/11/13 Initial recipe report
 06/11/13 Goals
 06/11/13 First update

It's a bit disappointing that there's nothing else this week other than the box. Anyone without the sufficient gems doesn't even have the option to partake in the update (without buying gems with real money). This is nothing new for box updates, but it's still a shame we don't even get a new recipe. Perhaps it would have been a good idea for TeamLava to hold back the two recipes on the basic appliances from last week until this. After all there were six other new recipes last week anyway thanks to the new appliances.

Regardless, at least the Thanksgiving goals can keep those who are still working through them busy, while the Halloween content removal will also provide a source of activity.
