Initial Thanksgiving 2013 recipes report

As part of last week's Restaurant Story update, eight new recipes were added to the game. Two are available at the start of the recipe list on the Basic Stove and Basic Oven respectively, while the other six are available across two new appliances which are only unlockable via the Thanksgiving 2013 goals.

You can analyse these recipes using my new recipe list located here.

Let's start the report with the two dishes on the Basic appliances...

New recipes on Basic Stove and Basic Oven

The Peruvian Loin Sautee is on the Basic Stove. It's the sixth 9 hour recipe of 2013 after having never had any of this length before. Alongside the other dishes of this duration the loin is a good performer - the 121 XP may be average, but the profit and portions numbers are both records for 9 hour recipes.

It even beats out most of the competition when grouped with the much larger pools of 8 and 10 hour dishes. It rates towards the very top for profit and portions, with it's slightly lower XP the only mark against it.

We've also got Pork and Persimmons on the Basic Oven. Again it's got an unusual duration, this time 7 hours. There are seven others to compare it with (including the Smoked Cream Corn on the new Thanksgiving Barbecue), and interestingly the pork gets the same grading as the loin above. The profit and portions set a new high among 7 hour dishes, with the XP letting the side down. In fact you get more XP for cooking the 9 hour loin! However the XP gain is enough to reach second in that league for 7 hour recipes, with only the Flower Salad (Basic Stove) earning more.

Now if we add the 6 and 8 hour recipes to the mix, the Pork and Persimmons still stacks up favourably. Per hour it rates sixth best for profit, ninth best for portions and joint third best for XP out of 66 recipes across these durations. All round a strong dish, and the length is convenient for cooking overnight.

Expect these two dishes to be shifted to a latter point in their respective recipe lists in a couple of weeks time.

Both have now been moved - the Peruvian Loin Sautee is now positioned between Caramel Apples and Minestrone Soup, while the Pork and Persimmons is situated between Pumpkin Cheesecake and Rack of Lamb.

And please note that since these two recipes are Thanksgiving content, they are likely to be removed in the annual holiday content removal in the New Year. For more on that, click here.

Now it's time to unleash the two specialised appliances. Firstly the Autumn Oven...

Before we look at these recipes individually, take a look at the side-by-side comparison with the three dishes on the Bewitched Stove, which was the first goal appliance for Halloween:

Recipe Duration Profit (coins) Portions XP Gain
Scary Chicken Fingers 2 hrs 690 250 46
Mummy Dogs 4 hrs 1,110 400 53
Fried Frog Legs 8 hrs 2,030 700 68
Cranberry Cobbler 2 hrs 690 250 48
Sweet Potato Brownies 4 hrs 1,120 400 54
Pecan Tassies 8 hrs 2,190 750 64

So each pair of recipes of the same length have near identical statistics! This is a shame for two reasons - firstly the stats for the Bewitched Oven recipes were poor, so that's carried over here. And secondly, if this is going to be a recurring case with the first goal appliance every time goals come out then the element of surprise at what the appliance will hold is lost!

I haven't got much to say on the stats for these simply because I'd just be regurgitating what I said for the Bewitched Oven recipes in the Halloween 2013 recipe report. In summary they're all losers, with the only highlight being that the 48 XP for the Cranberry Cobbler ties for second best among 2 hour dishes, only behind the NY Strip Steak (Basic Grill).

So moving swiftly on, there are three recipes aboard the other goal appliance - the Thanksgiving Barbecue...

Analysing the Spicy Mashed Potatoes is very easy too. This is because its numbers are almost identical to that of fellow new 4 hour recipe the Sweet Potato Brownies. It yields 10 coins more in profit, 1 more XP and the same portions. So it gets the same score as the brownies - a resounding fail.

The Smoked Cream Corn is another rare 7 hour dish, but is markedly poorer than the Pork and Persimmons. Here's a side-by-side comparison to verify this point:

Recipe Duration Profit (coins) Portions XP Gain
Pork and Persimmons 7 hrs 3,600 1,250 126
Smoked Cream Corn 7 hrs 1,510 525 77

This table tells its own story - the corn is hugely inferior to the pork. Stay away once its mastered!

And finally, no Thanksgiving is complete without the turkey. But this Thanksgiving Turkey has been left in the oven too long. It is the third worst of all current 10 hour recipes across all the key indicators. You're much better off with Gravlax (Swedish Stove) for profit and portions and Stuffed Lamb (Basic Oven) for XP gain.

So in summary, we've got eight new delicacies for cooking, of which the two basic appliance recipes are top drawer and the six goal appliance recipes are cold turkeys...

I daresay that there will be more Thanksgiving recipes over the coming weeks. They will be analysed in the relevant game update post!

  1. I was thinking about how the 2 recipes for the basic appliances this week were quite good, compared to the ones on the new appliances and it occurred to me to do a little detective/guess work...
A few weeks ago, TL made changes to a bunch of recipes that they'd introduced for halloween, tied to lowering the level of the recipes. I don't know what level they are now, but my secondary acct, lvl 19, has access to Pumpkin Soup, so they're pretty low. Your post on the subject: http://restaurantstoryadventures.blogspot.com/2013/10/some-recipe-changes.html
They did this to give lower level players access to the recipes before halloween was over... or maybe before they are removed in January?
This week, though, the recipes on the basic appliances have good stats, similar to the initial incarnation of the halloween recipes. And when I checked my low level account, sure enough, they're locked until level 63. So this time, they have no problem with low level players being locked out of the recipes... Maybe because they don't intend to remove them?
All this is to say that, as a relatively new player trying to figure out what to prioritize before the January removal, maybe I should concentrate on the lower level recipes from the ones introduced this year, as maybe they're more likely to be on the block. What do you think?

    1. That's an interesting theory and I can't find any fault in it.

I'd still go on the assumption that they will be removed just to be safe, but it's definitely worth taking the level of unlocking into account if prioritising recipes is necessary.

Do remember though that TeamLava can be illogical sometimes, so applying logic and sense as you've done doesn't guarantee an accurate conjecture! :)
