There are just four recipe rating posts to go, with this edition focusing on the 10 hour dishes.
There are 19 recipes of this duration up for discussion, with 12 of these freely available to all players. Five of the remainder are goal foods, so are only accessible to those who completed the relevant goals when they were around. The other two dishes are removed.
The 10 hour recipes are pretty useful for those with busy lives. I'm sure there are many who set them off on their appliances in the morning before they leave for work or school and then serve the food upon arriving home in the early evening. So it's a big recipe length to be the best in!

In a similar fashion to some of the previous durations, all the dishes in the bracket earn 4 coins per plate, meaning their profit and portion numbers are in sync. So we'll look at these two factors together. And there's one recipe which stands out when it comes to these variables:
Gravlax | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Profit | XP gain | Portions | Profit per plate | Availability | Rating |
10 | 2 | 10 | 3 | 6 | 6.7 |
The Gravlax (Swedish Stove) is a seriously powerful 10 hour food. Not only is it the duration leader for profit and portions by a huge margin, it also performs admirably on a per hour basis. Its 642 coins per hour of profit places it 49th in a ranking of all dishes. That doesn't sound particularly exciting, but all of the 48 which better it are of 6 hour length or less. So this is the go to recipe for profit if you're not going to be around throughout the day.
Regarding portions per hour, the Gravlax is not so impressive, dropping to 67th with a couple of longer recipes exceeding it because they earn fewer coins per plate. However it is still a really good portions maker - it will help keep your counters stocked!
We've yet to touch on that less than satisfying XP rating though. The Gravlax falls down here, with a below average XP. Let's take a look at the next best pair of contenders in the profit and portions stakes and see if they do better in the XP game:
Airline Dinner | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Profit | XP gain | Portions | Profit per plate | Availability | Rating |
8 | 7 | 8 | 3 | 5 | 7.1 |
Musical Cupcakes | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Profit | XP gain | Portions | Profit per plate | Availability | Rating |
7 | 8 | 8 | 3 | 4 | 7.0 |
The Airline Dinner (Basic Stove) and Musical Cupcakes (Basic Oven) are undoubtedly a significant downgrade on the profit and portions of the Gravlax, but they do offer decent statistics next to the rest of the 10 hour bracket. And unlike the Gravlax, they boast healthy XP figures, resulting in a slightly higher overall rating. So if you want an all-round performer, these two are a better proposition, with the Airline Dinner shading it.
However neither of these recipes strikes purple for XP. The leader in the factor is the Haddock (Fish Stand):
Haddock | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Profit | XP gain | Portions | Profit per plate | Availability | Rating |
2 | 10 | 3 | 3 | 5 | 4.9 |
Available only to those who unlocked it via the Riverboat goals back in July, the Haddock shares the quality of the Gravlax, except for XP rather than profit and portions. Only shorter duration dishes can deliver as much XP per hour, although I must admit there are a lot of said shorter recipes which outstrip it.
Unfortunately the Haddock is the third worst 10 hour food for profit and portions, which rules it out of the race for supremacy. With no other dishes putting up a fight, we can declare the Airline Dinner the victor, and grant it a place in the Recipe Hall of Fame.
On a separate note, you may have observed that all four of the recipes we looked at in-depth above scored a three for profit per plate. This is unusual as typically it's a pretty level playing field and most foods obtain a ten. But not today! In a surprising twist of fate only the Torch Ice Cream (Ice Cream Machine) earns a ten for its 2.98 coins of profit per plate. This is only a fraction ahead of the rest, but ahead nonetheless.
The surprise element comes from the fact that the Ice Cream Machine (and the Fire Pit Grill from the same goal set) are among the very poorest recipes in the game from a statistical standpoint. For example, the Torch Ice Cream scores a one for all three of the main factors. Yet it is triumphant when it comes to profit per plate!
Hello again, so to prepare you, this is a LONG post – but since it’s ‘dish’ related, I hope it’s appropriate to post it here.
ReplyDeleteI want to ask your advice about which dishes to master as a priority. I know you have mentioned this a few times when talking about your method of mastering dishes; which is one at a time, except for those seasonal/update/goal appliance dishes that may not last.
I'm interested in which dishes you deem to be 'at risk'. Those dishes which you think may be removed at some point in the near future.
I have thoroughly scanned the Recipe List on this site, and your colour codes help; I know that you colour coded BLUE any dish added this year which may be removed at some time in the future. I’m also thinking about those appliances which may be considered ‘at risk’ – as I understand it, any of the non-standard appliances which usually have between 1 and 3 dishes, some going as high as 6 or 11 (Sushi Counter and Drink Machine respectively) – are any of these dishes, or appliances at risk in your opinion?
The reason I’m asking, is I would like to make something of a ‘Priority Mastery List’. I’m primarily using the information contained in your Recipe List to do so, and would very much appreciate your input (if of course you have time).
The list would need to take into consideration all factors; when a dish or appliance was introduced into the game, likely removal times of seasonal dishes (based on previous removal dates of certain content). I see that you have detailed records of most dishes, which is great! I still feel that any list that is created (unless it were to be created by TeamLava) would be completely ‘best-guess’ though.
As I read all the information contained in your Recipe List, I can see dishes which I would have assumed to be removed already. Good examples of which are Mud Pudding and Candy Corn Cupcakes, which I can see were added for Halloween in Oct 2013, and still remain. While all the Christmas/Holiday dishes from last year were removed in Jan 2014. One could deduce that this makes them very at risk of being removed, but then again, perhaps they will remain throughout the Halloween period as additional dishes players can utilise during this time..
At this stage, I have come up with the following rules:
If the notes say “Original Recipe” with no other notes – immediately to the bottom of the list.
If the dish is highlighted BLUE (added this year) – immediately to the top of the list.
Outside of this I’m finding it difficult to prioritise. I’m worried about dishes or appliances disappearing. Many of the goal appliances are still available, but when are they likely to disappear? I only began playing in January, so it’s difficult for me to know from experience when goal appliances are removed. I also see appliances such as Asian Fusion Cart – added way back in 2012 (not for a goal it would seem) and it still remains. But I guess it may disappear at some point too? – Many other appliances are in the same boat; Burger Grill, Candy Hearts Stove, Chocolate Maker, Cowboy Stove, Drum Set Oven – and many more!
Without having to reply to EVERYTHING I’ve written, the main questions I have for a veteran of the game such as yourself is this:
1) Is my goal of making a “Priority Mastery List” unrealistic – and there’s no way to make a half-way-reliable list?
2) What is your current ‘mastery priority’? Goal appliances, seasonal updates, non-standard appliances…?
It’s quite likely that you have already thought of doing this yourself (and/or done it already) or deduced that it would all be guess work, either way it’d be great to hear your thoughts.
A long post indeed, but a very interesting one! Allow me to address the two questions you've posed...
Delete1) A 'Priority Mastery List' sounds a very good idea and one which I think is realistic. You seem to have all the relevant criteria in mind - it would just be a case of weighting each factor to then produce an aggregate result, or simply judging each dish on its own merits.
2) Technically I have no 'current' priority having mastered everything (minus one). But generally I aim to set aside four or five slots when a new recipe is released on the Basic appliances, and master it completely within a few weeks of release. This is something I do for recipes of any nature, not just those which are attached to a certain season.
After this I'd look at dishes which are not new, but do have a seasonal theme they relate to. Take the Autumn Cheesecake for example. By its very nature this is a seasonal recipe, but having been added in 2012 it has escaped removal for two years. Yet there's no guarantee that it'll survive the next removal, whenever that may be. So such foods should be high on the agenda.
As for appliances at risk? Here's some excellent news: any appliances you have bought and the recipes upon them are exempt from removal. So to ensure the availability of dishes on non-standard appliances you need only buy at least one of the appliance. This worked brilliantly for me with the Monster Oven and Witch's Stove, which I bought one of each before they were removed. It took a long time, but eventually I mastered the six recipes aboard the two appliances. The same applies to goal appliances.
I hope I've been of some help! :)
